Tampa Bay Lightning vs Vegas Golden Knights Picks - Vegas Keep Rolling at Home

My Lightning vs Golden Knights prediction is a Vegas win on Tuesday, with goals at both ends and Brandon Hagel piling up shots for Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Lightning visit the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena at 10.30 p.m. ET. Tampa Bay have won six of their last seven, but they're 1-2 on the road, while Vegas lead the NHL with 16 points and have won three straight.

I'm backing the Golden Knights because they score at a rate nobody has matched this season. They're putting up 4.2 goals a game and are 5-1 at home, and Andrei Vasilevskiy is stopping just 88.6% of the shots he faces.

Over 6.5 goals is the bet I like most in this game. Seven of Vegas' 10 games have reached seven goals, and both penalty kills are sitting around 75%, which gives two dangerous power plays plenty to work with.

Hagel is my shots play. He has 38 shots in eight games and has hit four or more in four of his last six, including eight against Philadelphia.

  • Vegas are scoring 4.2 goals a game and are 5-1 at home.
  • Seven of Vegas' 10 games have had seven or more goals.
  • Tampa Bay are 5-0 at home but 1-2 on the road.
  • Hagel has four or more shots in four of his last six games.

Lightning Form

Goaltending is the soft spot in Tampa Bay's start. Vasilevskiy has an .886 save percentage through six starts, and that's not good enough against the league's highest-scoring team.

The Lightning have found ways to win anyway. Against Seattle on Thursday, Hagel scored twice, the Kraken tied it late in the third, and Victor Hedman won it in overtime. Saturday's 4-2 win over Vancouver started badly, with Tampa Bay down 2-0, before Nikita Kucherov scored twice in the second and Jake Guentzel put them ahead early in the third while outshooting the Canucks 35-14.

Yanni Gourde is listed out with a hip injury in CBS Sports' game previewuntil at least December. Hagel is skating with Anthony Cirelli and Kucherov on the top line, according to the Lightning's Nuts and Bolts previewon NHL.com.

Golden Knights Form

Vegas' offence is the story of the season so far. They lead the NHL with 41 goals, and they've scored six in each of their last two games.

Both wins were over early. Against Calgary on Thursday, Vegas led 2-0 inside 10 minutes, and Mark Stone finished it with a third-period hat trick in a 6-2 win. Against Pittsburgh on Saturday, Jack Eichel set up goals from Rasmus Andersson and Noah Hanifin inside the first four minutes, and the Golden Knights were up 3-0 after one.

Alex Pietrangelo, Parker Wotherspoon and Victor Olofsson are all listed out in CBS Sports' game preview for this one. In goal, Carter Hart has started six games and Adin Hill four, according to NHL.com's national TV preview for the week.

Verdict

Golden Knights to win, with over 6.5 goals and Brandon Hagel to hit four or more shots. Tampa Bay can score with anyone, but Vegas are scoring too often at home for this goaltending to keep up.
