Quentin Halys has pushed Alexander Zverev hard in all three of their previous meetings, including at the US Open a few weeks ago, where the German needed five sets to get past the Frenchman.
Halys should take confidence from that performance, while Zverev has yet to look entirely convincing in recent matches. Another competitive encounter looks possible, making the games and handicap markets worth exploring.
Zverev Targets Another Deep Run In Shanghai
- Zverev has a 4–1 record in third-round matches in Shanghai.
- He has a 51–4 record against players outside the Top 20 this year.

Zverev's Impressive Season Keeps World No. 1 Dream Alive
Alexander Zverev opened his campaign with a straight-sets victory over Yibing Wu in Shanghai, winning 6-4, 7-6. He lost his serve once and broke his opponent twice to secure the win.
The German began his Asian swing in Beijing last week, where he had a strong opportunity to make a deep run and challenge for the title. However, he lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals despite taking the opening set, ending his 11-match winning streak at that stage.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season, winning at least two matches in 13 of the 15 events he had played before Shanghai. He has also reached 10 semifinals or better, including title-winning runs at the French Open and US Open, as well as a final appearance at Wimbledon.
These results have helped him return to the top two in the rankings. With Jannik Sinner announcing that he will miss the rest of the season, Zverev now has a genuine opportunity to challenge for the world No. 1 position for the first time.

Halys Saves Match Points to Reach Shanghai Third Round
Quentin Halys advanced to the third round in Shanghai after defeating Alexander Blockx in a three-set comeback, winning 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. He saved two match points in the second-set tiebreak before raising his level to complete the victory.
This is Halys's best result in Shanghai, having reached the second round in each of his previous two appearances. Before this tournament, he had recorded multiple main-draw wins at a Masters event only twice in his career, both times in Miami, in 2023 and 2026, where he reached the fourth round.
The 29-year-old struggled with consistency and form earlier this year, eventually dropping out of the top 100. However, a quarterfinal appearance in Gstaad and his maiden tour-level title in Kitzbühel helped him climb back into the top 50.
