Hurkacz Targets First Tour-Level Title Since His Comeback
Hubert Hurkacz secured his place in the final after defeating Denis Shapovalov from a set down in Chengdu, winning 6-7, 6-3, 6-3. After missing an opportunity to claim the first set, the Pole maintained his impressive form throughout the match and did not lose his serve.
His path to the final has not been easy, as he played tiebreaks against Alexander Shevchenko and Lloyd Harris and also registered a comeback win against Martin Damm. It represents a much-needed result for him, as he had not reached a quarterfinal on tour this year before this week.
The 30-year-old started the season after a six-month injury layoff and struggled to find his level, eventually dropping out of the top 100. However, recent results such as reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon, the third round in Montreal and winning the Cancun Challenger helped him return to the top 50 in the rankings.
He has an 8-4 record in tour-level finals in his career, with one of those finals coming in Shanghai, where he won in three sets. He will look to produce a similar result in China this week.

Davidovich Fokina Targets Second Career Tour-Level Trophy
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili from a set down to reach the final in Chengdu, winning 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. After losing the first set, he found his rhythm and took control of the remaining two sets.
Despite not having played a match in the last two months due to injury, the Spaniard can be pleased with his performance this week, as he did not drop a set in his first two matches before reaching the final.
The 27-year-old has struggled with injury issues this year, but he has still posted impressive results, including five quarterfinal-or-better finishes and his maiden tour-level title in Mallorca.
He had lost five consecutive tour-level finals before winning his breakthrough title in Mallorca a few weeks ago, and he now has another opportunity to add another title this week.
