Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers Picks - McDavid and Kaprizov Collide

My Wild vs Oilers prediction is an Oilers win on Tuesday, with Connor McDavid posting two more points, Kirill Kaprizov scoring for Minnesota and Matt Boldy firing four or more shots.

The Minnesota Wild visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place at 9 p.m. ET. Both teams have 13 points, with Edmonton at 6-1-1 and Minnesota at 6-2-1 after back-to-back home wins.

I'm backing McDavid for two or more points because he hasn't stopped producing. He has 23 points in eight games, a point in every one of them and six multi-point nights.

Kaprizov is the goal I want from the other side. He has 10 goals in nine games, has scored in six of them and comes in on a three-game goal streak.

Boldy is my shots play. He's averaging 4.56 shots a game and has fired 14 in his last two, and Edmonton's goaltending gives shooters every reason to keep putting pucks on net.

  • McDavid has a point in all eight games and six multi-point games.
  • Kaprizov has 10 goals in nine games and a three-game goal streak.
  • Boldy has 14 shots on goal in his last two games.
  • Edmonton's goalies are stopping fewer than 90% of shots this season.

Wild Form

The penalty kill is the backbone of Minnesota's start. They've killed 89.3% of their penalties, and Jesper Wallstedt has a .922 save percentage through eight starts.

The last two wins showed both sides of this team. Against St. Louis on Thursday, Boldy scored a hat trick and the Wild led 5-2, then had to survive two late Blues goals in a 5-4 win. Sunday was a 2-1 grind over Columbus, with Minnesota outshooting the Blue Jackets 35-15 and Kaprizov scoring the winner on the power play early in the second.

The blue line is stretched, with Brock Faber, Jared Spurgeon and Olli Maatta all listed out in CBS Sports' game preview, along with goalie Filip Gustavsson.

Oilers Form

Edmonton's attack is producing 4.62 goals a game, and the top line is doing most of the damage. The issue is behind it, with Devon Levi at .898 and Tristan Jarry at .873.

Thursday's 4-2 home loss to Utah turned on special teams, with the Mammoth scoring twice on the power play to take a 2-0 lead. Edmonton answered in style on Saturday in Salt Lake City, where McDavid scored 40 seconds in and finished with two goals and three assists in a 6-2 win.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Frederik Andersen are both listed out in CBS Sports' game preview, with Jason Dickinson also sidelined.

Verdict

Connor McDavid to record two or more points, Kirill Kaprizov to score and Matt Boldy to hit four or more shots. These are two of the hottest scorers in the league, and neither defence is set up to slow them down tonight.
