Newcastle vs Everton Predictions

Newcastle face Everton at St James' Park just four days after their EFL Cup round-of-16 encounter.

The Magpies will be determined to bounce back from Thursday's 3-1 defeat against a Toffees side boosted by their victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

I'm putting my full stake on BTTS & over 2.5 goals at St James' Park.

Goals Expected at St James' Park

  • Newcastle have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 4 home matches (Premier League)
  • Newcastle have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in their last 4 matches against Everton
  • Everton have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 2 of their last 4 matches

Newcastle vs Everton Head to Head

Newcastle and Everton have met 13 times in competitive fixtures since November 2020.  Newcastle claimed six victories while Everton picked up five wins. Two games finished level.

Everton secured a 3-1 win in last week’s Carabao Cup contest while the Toffees edged to a 3-2 success in their last trip to St James' Park in February.

Newcastle Looking for Revenge

Newcastle return to St James' Park after a disappointing 3-1 defeat against Everton in Thursday's Carabao Cup fourth-round contest.

James Garner put the hosts ahead with a fine strike from the edge of the box before Hayden Hackney doubled Everton's advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Thierno Barry added a third in the second half before Dan Burn grabbed a late consolation for the Magpies.

Newcastle were guilty of missing several chances in a more competitive contest than the final scoreline suggested.

The Magpies enjoyed 57% possession and registered significantly more shots (28-11). Matthias Jaissle's side also recorded a higher xG total (2.09-1.84), but failed to make their attacking superiority count in an entertaining cup clash.

A disappointing run of form has seen Newcastle lose four of their last six matches, including three of four games played in October.

Defensive struggles have been at the forefront of the Magpies' problems this season. Jaissle’s men conceded 13 goals in their last six games, while they have leaked two or more in six of 11 fixtures this season.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent for the home side. An average of 3.25 goals per game were scored in their first eight EPL fixtures this season.

Coming into Monday’s matchup, Newcastle sit eighth in the division, one point ahead of Everton.

Everton Buoyed by Midweek Victory

Everton travel to St James' Park after their fine 3-1 home win against Newcastle in Thursday's Carabao Cup fourth-round tie.

A much-improved attacking performance saw David Moyes’s side break a three-game winless run with a deserved victory at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Thursday’s success came on the back of successive 2-0 Premier League defeats against Arsenal and Chelsea.

Before those setbacks, the Toffees had remained unbeaten in their first eight fixtures of the season.

While a lack of goals remains a concern, Moyes’s men scored twice in their last away game at Hull (2-2) before their three-goal haul against Newcastle last week.

Recent results at St James’s Park offer plenty of encouragement for the visitors. Everton won their last two games at this venue while they are unbeaten in their last three trips to Tyneside.

Newcastle vs Everton Team News

Newcastle: (4-2-3-1) Lukas Hornicek; Amar Dedic, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, Lewis Hall; Nico Gonzalez, Joelinton; Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes; Yoane Wissa.

Newcastle head coach Jaissle has several injury concerns ahead of Monday's Premier League fixture. Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen are expected to miss out, while Lewis Miley and Matias Fernandez-Pardo remain doubtful.

William Osula is another injury concern after picking up an ankle injury in Thursday's cup defeat. Yoane Wissa is likely to lead the home attack if the young forward fails to recover.

Speaking after Thursday's EFL Cup defeat, Jaissle admitted his side had paid the price for their lack of composure in front of goal.

"We, of course, are disappointed with the result. It's also a bit shocking at the moment because overall the game was not that bad," Jaissle said.

"But it's a bit the story of the season so far. In situations where it really counts, we lack the clinical approach to solve the situations."

Everton: (4-2-3-1) Jordan Pickford; Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Jake O'Brien, James Tarkowski, Vitaliy Mykolenko; Hayden Hackney, James Garner; Brennan Johnson, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tyrique George; Thierno Barry.

Everton boss Moyes has some selection concerns ahead of the trip to St James' Park. Jarrad Branthwaite remains doubtful as he follows concussion protocols, while Jack Grealish's availability is uncertain after disciplinary action cost him his place on Thursday.

Top scorer Thierno Barry is expected to lead the visitors' attack. The French forward has scored three Premier League goals this season.

"The one thing about Everton and what they've got is really good values behind them," Moyes said.

"All the players stand up to the values and accept the values we put out there [about] what we want from them on the pitch and off the pitch.

"From that point of view, the players have done a brilliant job tonight."

Verdict

Recent meetings between these sides have been competitive and entertaining, and I expect more of the same in Monday’s EPL encounter.

I have a stake on BTTS and over 2.5 goals at St James' Park.
