Rafael Jodar has been one of the most consistent performers on tour this season, and his recent results show no sign of that slowing down. He currently holds eighth place in the race to Turin, and keeping hold of it would mean qualifying for the ATP Finals in his first full season on the main tour.

That is a massive incentive, and Jodar is unlikely to let focus lapses or loose errors creep into his game with so much at stake. Having already beaten Alejandro Tabilo thrice in their four meetings this year, the Spaniard looks well placed to take charge once again.

Jodar Extends Remarkable Masters Run Into Paris

  • Tabilo has a 6-2 record in opening-round matches at Masters events this year.
  • He has a 3-8 record against top-20 players this season.
  • Jodar has won at least two matches in each of his last six Masters appearances.
  • He holds a 51-12 record against players outside the top 20.

Tabilo Looks to Halt Recent Slide at Paris Masters

Alejandro Tabilo produced some notable results during the North American swing, reaching the semifinals in Washington and the third round of the US Open. However, he failed to maintain that level in subsequent events, winning just one match across his last four tournaments.

The Chilean has lacked consistency this season, but several strong results have helped him remain around the top 30 in the rankings. His highlights include reaching the final in Rio de Janeiro, the fourth round of the French Open and the third round in both Miami and New York.

This is Tabilo’s second appearance at the Paris Masters, having suffered a second-round defeat in 2024. He enters this clash with a 6-2 record in opening-round matches at Masters events this year and will look to improve that mark this week.

Jodar Continues Rapid Rise With Paris Masters Debut

Rafael Jodar recently reached his first Masters final in Shanghai, where he had a major opportunity to claim the title but lost in three sets after taking the opening set. He then suffered a second-round exit in Basel.

The 20-year-old's transformation this season has been impressive. Despite his limited experience on the main tour, he has recorded eight quarterfinal or better appearances, five of them at Masters 1000 events or above.

His rapid rise has established him as one of the most dangerous emerging players on tour and put him on course for a potential top-10 debut. Jodar is currently ninth in the ATP Finals Race and needs a deep run in Paris to strengthen his chances of securing qualification.

Apart from his opening-round defeat at Indian Wells, Jodar has won at least two matches in each of his next six Masters appearances. That run includes a semifinal in Montreal and his breakthrough final in Shanghai.

Verdict

With form, motivation and the head-to-head all pointing one way, Jodar should handle this comfortably. Backing him to win in straight sets is the main play, and covering the -3.5 games handicap looks well within his reach too.
