Carlos Alcaraz arrives in Paris fresh from lifting the title in Vienna, and the first match after a trophy run can often be a tricky one. Added to that, the Paris Masters has never been a happy hunting ground for the Spaniard, with his results here consistently falling below his usual standards.
That opens the door for Alex Michelsen to make this a contest. The American pushed Alcaraz to a deciding set in Tokyo just a few weeks ago, and he has every reason to believe he can test him again in these quick indoor conditions.

Michelsen Targets Best Paris Masters Run After Lehecka Comeback
Alex Michelsen recovered from a set down to defeat Jiri Lehecka 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 and reach the second round in Paris. He squandered an early 3-1 lead before losing the opening-set tiebreak, but responded well to take control of the remaining two sets and complete the comeback.
Michelsen will now look to produce his best result at the Paris Masters, having failed to register multiple wins in either of his previous two appearances.
The American has enjoyed a strong season on hard courts, winning 30 matches, with most of his success coming during the North American swing. His notable results include quarterfinal appearances at the Australian Open and in Washington, as well as fourth-round runs at Indian Wells and Miami.
He has cleared the opening-round hurdle in 13 Masters appearances throughout his career but progressed further in only four of them. Three of those deeper runs came in 2026, and he will look to build on that progress in Paris.

Alcaraz Carries Vienna Title Form Into Paris
Carlos Alcaraz added another title to his collection by defeating Alex de Minaur in straight sets in the Vienna final last week. He won all five matches without dropping a set, extending his impressive run of form ahead of the Paris Masters.
The Spaniard missed more than four months through injury before returning at the US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals. He followed that up by winning the title in Tokyo the following month.
Alcaraz has played 10 events this season, reaching at least the quarterfinals in seven of them and winning four titles. His results have been particularly impressive considering the time he spent away from competition through injury.
This will be his sixth appearance at the Paris Masters. He has reached the second round or further in three of his previous five campaigns, with his best result coming in 2022, when he made the quarterfinals. He will now look to carry his title-winning form from Vienna into another strong campaign in Paris.

Verdict
Rather than chasing the upset, the value lies in Michelsen staying competitive. Taking him on the +4.5 games handicap is the lead bet, while Michelsen to win a set and to win over 8.5 games in the match both reward a repeat of that Tokyo performance.
