Taylor Fritz has piled up a heavy workload in recent weeks as he pushes to secure his place at the ATP Finals. That effort showed on Tuesday, when he needed a medical timeout during a three-set first-round win, raising doubts over how well he can recover in time for this match.

Alex Molcan is a capable shot-maker who can make life awkward for anyone not at full strength. If Fritz is even slightly compromised physically, the Slovak has the game to take advantage, and his current price looks very generous.

Molcan Faces Another Major Test Against Elite Opposition

  • Molcan has yet to register multiple main-draw wins at a Masters event since 2023.
  • He has a 2-3 record against top-20 players in 2026.
  • Fritz holds an 11-4 record on indoor hard courts this year.
  • He has a 25-5 record against players outside the top 50 this season.

Molcan Targets First Multiple-Win Masters Campaign Since 2023

Alex Molcan recovered from a set down to defeat Titouan Droguet 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and reach the second round in Paris. After losing the opening set, he raised his level and controlled the match in the remaining two sets.

This is only his second main-draw win at a Masters event this year, following his second-round appearance in Shanghai a few weeks ago. He last recorded multiple main-draw wins at a Masters event in 2023 and will be looking to end that wait this week.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a productive spell on clay earlier this season, reaching the semifinals in Umag and Munich and the quarterfinals in Kitzbuhel and Bucharest. However, he has struggled to produce similar results on hard courts and is yet to record multiple wins on the surface since last year.

Fritz Carries Indoor Revival Into Paris Masters

Taylor Fritz also came from a set down to defeat Benjamin Bonzi 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and reach the second round. He served 20 aces and saved five of the six break points he faced.

The American is making his eighth main-draw appearance at the Paris Masters. Six of his previous seven campaigns ended without multiple match wins, while his best result came in 2021, when he reached the quarterfinals.

Fritz endured a difficult North American swing, which saw him drop out of the top 10, before suffering early exits in both of his Asian appearances. His results have improved since the tour moved indoors, with a semifinal run in Basel and a final appearance in Lyon.

He has played five Masters events this season and recorded multiple main-draw wins in only two, reaching the third round in Miami and the quarterfinals in Cincinnati. He will now look to build on his opening-round victory and make another deep run in Paris.

Verdict

Fritz’s fitness concerns open the door for Molcan to make this a real contest. Backing Molcan to win a set and to cover the +4.5 games handicap are the main plays, with a small stake on him to win the match outright worth a shot at the odds.
