Badosa Seeks Asian Swing Revival After Consecutive Early Exits
Paula Badosa has played two events during the Asian swing so far, and both have ended in early-round losses. She lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the second round in Beijing and suffered an opening-round exit against Antonia Ruzic in Osaka last week. She will look to bounce back with a positive result in Guangzhou, where she is making her debut.
The Spaniard has been dealing with recurring chronic lower-back issues that have significantly affected her progress in recent years. This year, she has also retired twice, most recently a few months ago, after showing some resurgence during the clay-court events before the North American swing began.
Badosa recorded multiple main-draw wins on tour only once during the first five months of the season, bringing her close to dropping out of the top 150 in the rankings. However, confidence-boosting results, including a final in Iasi, quarterfinal appearances in Berlin and Hamburg, a semifinal in Sao Paulo and a WTA 125 title in Bastad, helped her remain around the top 60.

Lee Carries Qualifying Momentum Into Guangzhou Main Draw
Carol Young Suh Lee qualified for the main draw this week after defeating Jeline Vandromme from a set down in the first round and then beating Elena Pradankina in straight sets. She will now look to build momentum after failing to win a match in four of her last five events.
This is only her fourth main-draw appearance at tour level in her career. She made her tour-level main-draw debut in Prague earlier this year, reaching the second round, but suffered opening-round exits in her other two appearances at the US Open and in Sao Paulo.
Lee has had a mixed season so far. After a solid start, she won only four matches from March to June. She bounced back by winning titles at the WTA 125 event in Warsaw and the W50 event in Corroios-Seixal, but her level has dropped again in recent weeks.

Verdict
Badosa endured several early exits during the first half of the season but has shown signs of improvement in recent months. Despite her ongoing fitness concerns, her experience and progress give her the edge in this clash.
