Phoenix Open Preview & Picks
The world's elite golfers descend on the greens of TPC Scottsdale to contest the latest round of the PGA Tour at the Phoenix Open, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm headlining a strong, star-studded field.

Scottie Scheffler is back to defend his title after defeating Patrick Cantlay in a playoff last year.

Past and present major winners who will tee off on Thursday include Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Jason Day, Jason Dufner, Matt Fitzpatrick, Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, Shane Lowry, Hideki Matsuyama, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Jimmy Walker, and Gary Woodland.

These are our four selections that could win this weekend.

Rory Mcllroy

Rory McIlroy has been in tremendous form on the golf course since August last year, winning the Tour Championship in August, the CJ Cup in South Carolina and the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Additionally, McIlroy placed T8 at the BMW Championship, T2 at the BMW PGA Championship, 4th at the Italian Open, T4 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, and 4th at the DP World Tour Championship.

Other excellent performances by the Northern Irishman on the PGA Tour in 2022 include finishing T10 at the Genesis Invitational, T13 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, second at the Masters, 5th at the Wells Fargo Championship, 8th at the PGA Championship, T18 at the Memorial Tournament, victory at the RBC Canadian Open, T5 at the US Open, T19 at the Travelers Championship, and 3rd at the Open Championship.

The world's number-one ranked golfer has made one appearance at the WM Phoenix Open, placing T13 in 2021.

It will be no surprise to see McIlroy in the winner's box again, as he has been playing exceptional golf.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm has been in superb touch since the Open Championship, winning the Open de Espana, the DP World Tour Championship, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and the American Express on the PGA Tour.

In addition, Rahm placed T5 at the FedEx St Jude Invitational, T8 at the BMW Championship, T15 at the Tour Championship, T2 at the BMW PGA Championship, T4 at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, T8 at the Hero World Challenge, and T7 at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The third-world-ranked golfer has an excellent record at the Phoenix Open, placing T5 in 2015, T16 in 2017, T11 in 2018, T10 in 2019, T9 in 2020, T13 in 2021, and T10 in 2022.

Rahm has his eyes on reclaiming the number-one ranking from McIlroy and has the form to win this fifth title in eight starts.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa has been playing excellent golf on the PGA Tour lately, placing T15 at the World Wide Technology Championship, 6th at the Hero World Challenge, 2nd at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and 3rd at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Other achievements from last year include finishing T18 at the Dubai Desert Classic, T2 at the Genesis Invitational, T9 at the WGC Dell Technologies World Match Play, 5th at the Masters, T5 at the US Open, T5 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and T21 at the Tour Championship.

The seventh world-ranked golfer has featured once at this event, finishing T25 in 2020.

Morikawa has been knocking hard and can convert his consistent results into victory at TPC Scottsdale.

Tom Kim

Tom Kim has been thereabouts in his previous five starts, placing T4 at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament(Japan Tour), T10 at the Hero World Challenge, T5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, MC at the Sony Open in Hawaii, and T6 at the American Express.

Before that, the 20-year-old Korean was in brilliant form on the PGA Tour, placing T7 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, victory at the Wyndham Championship, T13 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T54 at the BMW Championship, victory at the Shriners Children's Open, T25 at the ZOZO Championship, and T11 at the CJ Cup in South Carolina.

He is making his debut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Kim has the form to win another PGA Tour title and could make the frame this weekend.

Verdict

McIlroy cannot be ignored at present and will fancy his chances to lift the trophy come Sunday.

Rahm has found the knack of winning lately and can triumph at the Phoenix Open this weekend.

Morikawa has rediscovered his form recently and can challenge for the title this weekend.

Kim has the game to surprise the others with victory at TPC Scottsdale.
