Chicago go into the final game of this series having failed to build on the successful end to the Crosstown series against the White Sox.
The Cubs enjoyed a four-game win streak earlier this month as they closed out a road trip with 5-2 and 4-1 wins at the New York Yankees, before downing Boston 4-1 and 6-0 at home.
They missed out on the series sweep as they lost 6-1 to the Red Sox, and they then sandwiched a 6-0 win over Kansas City with 12-4 and 8-4 losses to the Royals.
Chicago lost the series opener with the White Sox too, 12-5, but bounced back to take the next two meetings with their Crosstown rivals, winning 6-1 and 5-4.
The Cubs have not won since though, suffering 8-4 and 9-3 defeats in their first two games of this series in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee Brewers Form
Milwaukee enter the final matchup in this series on a tremendous run of form, having now won 15 of their last 18 games.
The Brewers were red hot for most of July as they went on an 11-game win streak that included a couple of series sweeps of the defending MLB champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
They beat Los Angeles 9-1, 3-1 and 3-2 at home, and later in the month they went out on the road to down the Dodgers 2-0, 8-7 and 6-5.
Milwaukee’s run was finally ended by a 1-0 loss in Seattle, and although they bounced back to win the series finale 10-2, they struggled to back that up as they lost 5-1 and 7-4 to Miami.
The Brewers avoided being swept as they took the series finale with the Marlins, 3-2, and they have backed that up by beating the Chicago Cubs 8-4 and 9-3.
Verdict
Milwaukee have been on a roll for most of July, unlike a Chicago team that has cooled off considerably.
The Brewers are the hotter hand, so we are backing them to complete a series sweep of the Cubs.
