Chicago travelled to Milwaukee on the back of a successful end to the Crosstown series against the White Sox.
The Cubs went into that series on an underwhelming run of form that head seen them cool off from a four-game win streak.
They closed out a six-game road trip with 5-2 and 4-1 wins at the New York Yankees, and followed up those victories at home as they beat Boston 4-1 and 6-0.
Chicago missed out on the series sweep as they lost 6-1 to the Red Sox, and they then sandwiched a 6-0 win over Kansas City with 12-4 and 8-4 losses to the Royals.
The Cubs lost the series opener with the White Sox too, 12-5, but rebounded to take the next two meetings, 6-1 and 5-4 wins.
Milwaukee Brewers Form
Milwaukee entered this series on the back of only their second win in their previous five matchups.
The Brewers were red hot for most of July as they went on an 11-game win streak that included a couple of sweeps of the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
They beat LA 9-1, 3-1 and 3-2 at home, and later in the month they went out on the road to down the Dodgers 2-0, 8-7 and 6-5.
Milwaukee’s run was finally ended by a 1-0 loss in Seattle, and although they bounced back to win the series finale 10-2, they struggled to back that up.
The Brewers lost the first two games at home to Miami, 5-1 and 7-4, before rallying to win the series finale, 3-2.
Verdict
Milwaukee are the hotter hand and have a pitching advantage heading into this latest meeting.
