San Diego then returned home for a successful series against Houston that saw them sandwich a 4-3 defeat to the Astros with 3-1 and 4-0 wins.
The Padres then played host to the Chicago White Sox in three-game series, and they were able to sweep the visitors thanks to 3-2, 6-2 and 4-2 victories.
Los Angeles Dodgers Form
Los Angeles come into this series on a solid run of form, having won six of their previous eight games to rebound from a rough spell earlier this month.
The Dodgers lost four times in a five-game spell, suffering back-to-back defeats to Chicago and Atlanta either side of a 10-8 win over the Cubs.
They started the turnaround against the Braves though, recording 9-2 and 9-0 victories to split that four-game series.
Los Angeles then rebounded from an 11-9 defeat in Miami with 8-4 and 20-4 victories over the Marlins.
The Dodgers returned home after that and won 6-4 and 6-5 either side of a 6-3 defeat to the Rockies.
Verdict
San Diego are in good form and have repeatedly got the better of Los Angeles this season.
Starter Michael King has done a solid job at the mound too, so the Padres make for appealing underdogs.
