Charles Oliveira is riding an 11-fight win streak as he attempts to regain the vacant lightweight title.
The 33-year-old Brazilian has not lost inside the Octagon since a TKO defeat to Paul Felder in December 2017.
He rebounded from that loss by reeling off seven consecutive stoppage victories.
Oliveira submitted Clay Guida, Christos Giagos, Jim Miller and David Teymur before stopping Nik Lentz and Jared Gordon with strikes.
He then tapped out Kevin Lee in the third round before finally seeing his streak of stoppage wins end with the decision success against Tony Ferguson.
That victory did take the Brazilian’s overall win streak to eight fights and that was enough to secure him a shot at the lightweight title.
Oliveira took his big chance with a second-round TKO win against Michael Chandler, and in his first defence he submitted Dustin Poirier in the third round.
He was then stripped of the title after failing to make weight for his fight with Justin Gaethje in May, but he did win the fight by submitting the American in the first round.
That victory took his record to 33-8, 1 NC, with 21 wins coming by submission and nine by KO/TKO.
Islam Makhachev Form
Islam Makhachev goes into his first UFC title fight having won each of his last 10 fights.
The 31-year-old Russian has rebounded well from the first defeat of his career – a first-round knockout loss to Adriano Martins in October 2015.
He got back to winning ways with a decision victory against Chris Wade before besting Nik Lentz over three rounds.
Makhachev then knocked out veteran Gleison Tibau and submitted Kajan Johnson in the first round of those fights.
The Russian fighter’s streak continued with decision wins against Arman Tsarukyan and David Ramos before submitting Drew Dober in round three.
That victory against Dober was the start of three consecutive submission wins.
He stopped Thiago Moises in the fourth round of their fight, before making quick work of Dan Hooker with a first-round finish.
Makhachev’s streak then hit 10 fights in February when he knocked out Bobby Green in the first round.
That win improved his career record to 22-1, with 10 wins coming by submission and four by KO/TKO.
