North Carolina are deservedly favorites, but the Peacocks have already downed three good teams.

They have also been ridiculously reliable against the spread, so they are a very appealing underdog.

North Carolina have won nine of their last 10 games and have knocked out two ranked teams on their way to the Elite Eight.

The Tar Heels ended the regular season on a five-game win streak that included a win at #4 Duke.

Their momentum stalled at the ACC conference tournament as they bowed out to Virginia Tech, but their response has been emphatic.

They opened their March Madness campaign with a 95-63 blowout of Marquette in the first round.

North Carolina then sent shockwaves through the tournament when they deservedly knocked out defending champions, #4 Baylor, 93-86 in overtime.

The Tar Heels did not need OT to advance from the Sweet 16 though – they downed #11 UCLA 73-66.

Caleb Love was the star of the show for North Carolina as he poured in 30 points and dished out four assists.

Armando Bacot also played a key role, registering 15 points and 14 rebounds in a double double.

North Carolina are shooting 45.3% from the field and rank 17th in the nation in points per game, averaging 78.3.

The Tar Heels are allowing opponents to shoot 42.9% from the field while giving up 71.7 points per game.

St Peter’s Form


St Peter’s are in red-hot form going into the Elite Eight of March Madness, having won 10 straight games.

The Peacocks ended the regular season on a four-game win streak and continue their run in the conference tournament.

They downed Fairfield, Quinnipiac and Monmouth on their way to clinching the MAAC tournament crown.

The standard of opposition has improved considerably at March Madness, but St Peter’s have risen to the occasion.

They grabbed the headlines when they ousted #7 Kentucky, 85-79 in overtime, in the first round, and they proved that was no fluke by downing #20 Murray State 70-60 in round two.

St Peter’s fairytale run was expected to finally end when they took on #10 Purdue in the Sweet 16.

The Peacocks had other ideas though as they pulled off another upset, beating the Boilermakers 67-64.

Darryl Banks III top-scored for St Peter’s with 14 points, while Clarence Rupert added 11 in a real team effort.

St Peter’s are shooting 42.7% from the field to average 66.9 points per game.

They key is defense – they rank #8 in the nation in opponent shooting percentage (38.9%) and #21 in points allowed per game (62.8).

Verdict


North Carolina are in good form and have already down the champs so they are deserved favorites.

However, St Peter’s keep upsetting the odds at March Madness and they have been piling up covers.
