The Red Raiders went on a run to the final of the Big 12 conference tournament, downing Iowa State and Oklahoma along the way.
They came up short in the final, but there was no shame in losing to #6 Kansas.
Texas Tech have rebounded at March Madness, winning back-to-back games to reach the Sweet 16.
They opened with a 97-62 blowout of Montana State before shutting down Notre Dame offensively in a 59-53 win.
Kevin Obanor played a key role with 15 points and 15 rebounds in a double double.
Kevin McCullar and Bryson Williams also played decisive roles in scoring, combining for 28 points.
Duke Form
Duke are riding a similar run of form to Texas Tech – winning four of their last five games.
Like Thursday opponents they too made the final of the conference tournament, beating Syracuse and fellow Sweet 16 team Miami (FL) along the way.
They were comprehensively beaten in the final though, losing 82-67 to Virginia Tech in the ACC final.
The Blue Devils response to that has been a couple of comfortable victories in March Madness.
Duke opened with a 78-61 rout of Cal State Fullerton before advancing to the Sweet 16 with an 85-76 win over Michigan State.
Four of the five starters scored at least 15 points in the win over the Spartans, with Paolo Banchero leading the way.
Banchero put up 19 points to go along with seven rebounds, while Wendell Moore Jr, Mark Williams and Jeremy Roach each scored 15.
Verdict
There is an old saying that ‘defense wins championships’, and Texas Tech are playing good defense.
The Red Raiders won’t win the national title on Thursday, but we are backing them to beat Duke.
