Colorado enter the new campaign as one of the leading contenders to go all the way and lift the Stanley Cup this season.

The Avalanche went 50-25-7 last season before bowing out of the playoffs at the hands of Dallas, losing the series 4-2.

They warmed up for the new season by going 1-3 during the preseason, which featured two meetings with their opponents on opening night.

Colorado kicked things off on the road where they lost 4-2 in Dallas, before returning home to lose 6-3 to Utah.

The Avalanche then wrapped up the preseason with a double-header against Vegas, losing 6-1 at home and winning 3-1 on the road.

Vegas Golden Knights Form

Vegas went one-and-done in the postseason a year ago and have their sights set on faring much better this time around.

The Golden Knights booked their place in the playoffs by compiling a 45-29-8 record, and they made a flying start to the series with Dallas, winning back-to-back games.

They dropped the next three though, and then failed to follow up a 2-0 victory in Game 6 as they lost a winner-takes-all clash with the Stars, 2-1.

Vegas enter the new season having gone 2-3 in the preseason, which started with a 3-2 defeat to Los Angeles.

The Golden Knights responded with a 5-2 win over Utah and a 6-1 success in Colorado, only to lose their final two games at home, 3-1 to Colorado and 6-5 to San Jose.
