St Louis go into the 2024/25 campaign looking to improve on the 43-33-6 record they put together last season.
The Blues went 2-3 in the preseason, starting with a 2-1 defeat when the visited Dallas in the first outing since April.
They then moved on to Columbus to lose 3-0, before finally registering their first preseason victory, beating Chicago 3-2 in overtime at home.
St Louis failed to back that up as they then suffered another defeat at the hands of Columbus, this time losing 3-1 at home to the Blue Jackets.
The Blues wrapped up the preseason with a win though, downing Dallas 4-3 in overtime last Thursday.
Seattle Kraken Form
Seattle enter the new season also seeking improvement, having failed to build on a 2022/23 campaign that saw them make it all the way to the playoffs.
The Kraken missed out on the postseason last time around, as they compiled a 34-35-13 record.
They go into their 2024/25 season opener having gone 2-4 in the preseason, which started with a 6-1 home defeat to Calgary and a 3-1 loss in Vancouver.
Seattle broke their duck with a 3-1 home win over Vancouver, only to then head back out on the road to lose 5-4 in Edmonton and 4-3 in overtime in Calgary.
The Kraken did conclude their preseason schedule with a victory however, beating Edmonton 6-2 at home.
Verdict
St Louis have had Seattle’s number since the Kraken entered the league, especially on the road, and that makes them an appealing underdog pick on opening night.
