Ruiz Jr has lost a lot of weight since the Anthony Joshua fights and is in the best shape of his career.

Ortiz has won his last two, but he was dropped twice by Charles Martin and trailed on the scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Andy Ruiz Jr Form

Andy Ruiz Jr has made a return to winning ways since losing the world heavyweight titles in 2019.

Ruiz Jr won his first 29 professional fights to earn his first shot at a world title in 2016, but he came up short on that night.

The Mexican heavyweight lost a majority decision to Joseph Parker in New Zealand.

He rebounded in his next outing with a first-round stoppage of Devin Vargas, and followed that up with a unanimous decision win against veteran Kevin Johnson.

Alexander Dimitrenko then retired after the fifth round in his next outing, which would prove to be Ruiz Jr’s final fight before getting a second shot at glory.

The 32-year-old stepped in at short notice to fight Anthony Joshua, and he shocked the world with a seventh-round stoppage.

Ruiz Jr was floored during the contest but recovered to drop Joshua multiple times before referee waved it off.

However, he proved to be a one-hit wonder as he was dethroned by Joshua in his first defence of the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles.

After that defeat Ruiz Jr did not fight again until May 2021, but he made a winning return with a unanimous decision win against Chris Arreola.

That took Ruiz Jr’s record to 34-2, with 22 wins coming by KO/TKO.

Luis Ortiz Form

Luis Ortiz is a veteran of the heavyweight division and goes into this fight having won his last two outings.

Ortiz earned himself a crack at the WBC heavyweight title in 2018 thanks to a seven-fight win streak.

That good run of form saw him stop Bryant Jennings, Tony Thompson and David Allen, and also earn a judges’ decision from David Allen.

However, his streak was brought to a shuddering halt by the fight-finishing power of Deontay Wilder.

Ortiz posed plenty of problems for ‘The Bronze Bomber’, but he failed to complete the job and was punished in the 10th round when Wilder knocked him out.

The 43-year-old rebounded with back-to-back stoppage wins over Razvan Cojanu and Travis Kauffman.

He then made it three-in-a-row with a decision win against Christian Hammer, and that proved to be enough to secure another shot at Wilder.

Once again Ortiz came up short against the then-WBC champion, this time suffering a seventh-round knockout.

The veteran Cuban has bounced back from disappointment again though.

He needed just 45 seconds to stop Alexander Flores in November 2020, and in January of this year he knocked out Charles Martin in the sixth round.

That victory over Martin improved Ortiz’s record to 33-2 (2 No Contests), with 28 wins and two defeats coming by KO/TKO.
