Fortinet Championship Preview & Picks
The 2022/23 PGA Tour season kicks off at Silverado Country Club, where the players will contest the Fortinet Championship. Who will be the champion come Sunday?

The players will tee off on the North course with Max Homa the defending champion.

There are nine major winners in the lineup, including Stewart Cink, Jason Day, Jason Dufner, Lucas Glover, Hideki Matsuyama, Webb Simpson, Jimmy Walker, Danny Willett and Gary Woodland.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Max Homa

Max Homa had an impressive 2021/22 season on the PGA Tour, capturing two titles and having multiple top 20 finishes.

Homa won the Fortinet Championship by one stroke and the Wells Fargo Championship by two strokes.

Other notable performances on the golf course include placing T5 at the Memorial Tournament, T10 at the Genesis Invitational, T13 at the Players Championship, T13 at the PGA Championship, T14 at the Phoenix Open, T15 at the Tournament of Champions, and T17 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The American's last six starts have been good, finishing T16 at the Genesis Scottish Open, MC at the Open Championship, T24 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T42 at the FedEx St Jude Championship, T23 at the BMW Championship, and T5 at the recent Tour Championship.

The 31-year-old has played at this event six times, finishing T9 in 2013, T39 in 2014, MC in 2016, T60 in 2018, T62 in 2019, and victory in 2021.

Homa was in great touch in his last tournament and looks ready to put in another winning performance in California this weekend.

Cameron Davis

Cameron Davis did not have the most productive 2021/22 season on the PGA Tour, but he has been playing excellent golf these past few months.

Davis' best results in his first 17 tournaments were T10 at the Tournament of Champions, T3 at the RBC Heritage and T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The 27-year-old golfer has been in great touch in his last six starts on the PGA Tour, placing T8 at the John Deere Classic, 6th at the Barracuda Championship, T16 at the 3M Open, T14 at the Rocket Mortage Classic, T13 at the FedEx St Jude Championship and T35 at the BMW Championship.

The Australian has featured three times at this event, placing T17 in 2018, MC in 2019 and T36 in 2020.

Davis has been putting in solid performances and can put up a good bid to go all the way to lift the trophy come Sunday.

Taylor Pendrith

Taylor Pendrith had a tough start to his first full season on the PGA Tour, but he has been in excellent form lately.

Pendrith's best performances in his first 13 PGA Tour tournaments were T5 at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, T16 at the Farmers Insurance Open and T25 at the Honda Classic.

The big-driving Canadian has come into his own in his last seven starts, placing T13 at the Players Championship, T13 at the Barbasol Championship, T11 at the Barracuda Championship, T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T13 at the Wyndham Championship, 68th at the FedEx St Jude Championship, and T8 at the BMW Championship.

The 31-year-old finished T36 at the Fortinet Championship last year.

Pendrith has found consistency in the latter half of this year and can bid to win his maiden PGA Tour title at the Silverado Country Club.

Trey Mullinax

After struggling with his form on the golf course for most of last season, Trey Mullinax has refound his touch, including winning his first PGA Tour title.

Mullinax's best results before his victory were T4 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, T28 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and T24 at the Mexico Open.

The American secured his maiden title at the Barbasol Championship, and has carried that form by placing T21 at the 150th Open Championship, T37 at the Rocket Mortage Classic, T5 at the FedEx St Jude Championship, and T12 at the BMW Championship.

The 30-year-old has made four appearances at the Fortinet Championship, finishing T22 in 2016, MC in 2017, MC in 2018 and MC in 2021.

Mullinax has been holding form and can feature prominently this weekend.

Verdict

Homa has the game to make it back-to-back victories at the Fortinet Championship.

Davis is playing well and could go all the way in California this weekend.

Pendrith has been threatening to win and could make the frame.

Mullinax could surprise the others and is the long-shot value bet at this tournament.
