Past and present major winners in the lineup include Cameron Smith, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Brooks Koepka, Graeme McDowell, Louis Oosthuizen, Patrick Reed, Charl Schwartzel, Bryson DeChambeau, Phil Mickelson and Henrik Stenson.
These are our selections for the title this weekend.
Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith started his year on the right note by winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions before missing the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Smith refound his touch around the greens, placing T4 at the Saudi International and T33 at the Genesis Invitational before claiming his second tournament for 2022 at the Players Championship.
The 29-year-old maintained his high level of play, finishing T3 at the Masters, MC at the RBC Heritage, T21 at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, T13 at the PGA Championship, T13 at the Memorial Tournament, T48 at the RBC Canadian Open, MC at the US Open, and T10 at the Scottish Open.
At the 150th Open Championship, Smith produced a superb final round to win the tournament, his third this year and the first Major of his career.
The Australian finished T13 at the FedEx St Jude Championship and 20th at the Tour Championship before T4 at the LIV Golf Invitational Series in Boston on his debut.
Smith has been in great touch since his Open Championship victory and can lift his first LIV Golf Invitational Series trophy this weekend.
Joaquin Niemann
Joaquin Niemann had an excellent beginning to his year, placing T6 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T8 at the Saudi International, and winning the Genesis Invitational before missing the cut at the Honda Classic.
The Chilean had decent results after the disappointing performance, finishing T22 at the Players Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T35 at the Masters, T12 at the RBC Heritage, T25 at the AT&T Byron Nelson, T23 at the PGA Championship and T3 at the Memorial Tournament.
The 23-year-old's form became wayward, finishing T47 at the US Open, MC at the Travelers Championship, T16 at the Genesis Scottish Open, and T53 at the Open Championship.
However, he regained his touch, placing T13 FedEx St Jude Championship, T8 at the BMW Championship and T11 at the Tour Championship.
The world's 20th-ranked golfer lost in a playoff to Dustin Johnson at his debut LIV Invitational Series event in Boston.
Niemann has been playing excellent golf in his last four starts and has the form to win the title in Chicago this weekend.
Talor Gooch
Talor Gooch had a solid start to his year on the PGA Tour, finishing T15 at the Tournament of Champions, T27 at the Sony Open, MC at the American Express, T20 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T26 at the Phoenix Open and MC at the Genesis Invitational.
The 30-year-old then showed improvement, placing T7 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. MC at the Players Championship, T18 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, and T14 at the Masters.
Gooch's form became erratic in his following five tournaments, missing the cut at the AT&T Byron Nelson, T20 PGA Championship, T27 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, MC at US Open, T34 at the 150th Open Championship, and 4th at the BMW PGA Championship last weekend.
He has featured in all the LIV Golf Invitational tournaments, placing 9th in London, 7th in Portland, T6 in Bedminster and 6th in Boston.
Gooch has had five top ten finishes in his last seven starts and will fancy his chances to go all the way in Illinois.
Patrick Reed
Patrick Reed has had an indifferent year but has looked like a better player since switching to the LIV Golf Invitational Series.
Reed's best results in his first 16 tournaments on the PGA Tour were finishing T15 at the Tournament of Champions, T26 at the Players Championship, T26 WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T35 at the Masters, T34 at the PGA Championship and T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
The 32-year-old American has made three appearances at the LIV Golf Invitational Series, placing T3 in Portland, 5th in Bedminster and T31 in Boston.
He played his first DP World Tour tournament for the year last weekend, finishing T5 at the BMW PGA Championship.
Reed brings excellent form into this tournament and can challenge for the win at the Rich Harvest Farms golf course.
Format
An invitational field of 48 golfers will feature at the tournament, with a total purse of $25 million up for grabs. $4 million will go to the winner, while the player coming in last will pocket $120,000.
The players will contest 54 holes instead of the traditional 72 for all the LIV Golf Invitational Series events.
A shotgun start will occur, where the players will tee off simultaneously from different holes.
A 12 four-man team format will run concurrent, with the top three teams earning prize money.
Verdict
Smith is holding form and has every chance to win his fourth title for 2022.
Niemann is knocking hard and will fancy his chances to claim the winners' check come Sunday.
Gooch has done no wrong of late and could convert his excellent form into a victory.
Reed was impressive in his last start and can go close in Chicago.
