Sanderson Farms Championship Preview & Picks
The PGA Tour and players head to Mississippi to contest the second tournament of the new season at the Country Club of Jackson. Which golfer will win and lift the trophy on Sunday?

Sam Burns returns to defend his title after his victory in 2021.

There are six major winners in the lineup including Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Lucas Glover, Jimmy Walker, and Gary Woodland.

These are our four selections that could win the title this weekend.

Sahith Theegala

Sahith Theegala had a decent start to his year, finishing T48, T33, T25 at the Farmers Insurance Open, T3 at the Phoenix Open and T48 at the Genesis Invitational.

He missed the cut in his following two events but refound his touch, placing T7 at the Valspar Championship and T22 at the Corales Puntacana Championship.

The 24-year-old failed to capitalise on his good form, as he finished T67, T70, T24 at the Mexico Open, T79 and T57 in his next five tournaments.

Theegala turned his fortunes around on the golf course, placing T5 at the Memorial Tournament, T53 at the RBC Canadian Open, T2 at the Travelers Championship, T16 at the John Deere Classic and T34 at the Open Championship.

The American missed the cut at the 3M Open, finished T57 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T13 at the FedEx St Jude Invitational, T15 at the BMW Championship, 28th at the Tour Championship and T6 at the Fortinet Championship.

He has played at this event twice, missing the cut in 2020 and placing T8 last year.

Theegala has been thereabouts and can claim the victory if he can replicate past performances he has achieved this year.

Scott Stallings

Scott Stallings had a difficult first half of 2022, missing the cut ten times in 17 tournament appearances.

However, he did produce excellent results when he made the weekend rounds, placing T21 at the Phoenix Open, T16 at the Valspar Championship, T13 at the Valero Texas Open, T25 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and T4 at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The American has refound his game lately, producing excellent results. He placed T8 at the Travelers Championship, T4 at the John Deere Classic, T10 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, T13 at the Wyndham Championship, MC, second at the BMW Championship and 29th at the Tour Championship.

The 37-year-old has finished T43, T39, T28, T6, and MC in his last five appearances at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Stallings can be challenging for the title as he has had two top five places and two top ten finishes in his last seven tournaments.

Emiliano Grillo

Emiliano Grillo struggled to find any form on the PGA Tour in 2022, missing the cut nine times in 16 starts.

His best results were T21 at the Genesis Invitational, T33 at the Mexico Open, T32 at the Memorial Tournament and T28 at the RBC Canadian Open.

The 30-year-old has found his touch in recent months, placing T2 at the John Deere Classic, MC at the Open Championship, T2 at the 3M Open, T31 at the FedEx St Jude Championship, T19 at the BMW Championship and T25 at the Fortinet Championship.

The Argentine has featured at the Sanderson Farms Championship on three occasions, finishing T39 in 2019, T35 in 2020, and T39 last year.

Grillo has found consistency on the golf course of late and offers an excellent each-way bet in Mississippi.

Sepp Straka

Sepp Straka had a solid start to this year, finishing T42 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, T49 at the American Express, T16 at the Farmers Insurance Open, 66th at the Phoenix Open, and T15 at the Genesis Invitational before securing his maiden PGA Tour title at the Honda Classic.

The 29-year-old continued to produce good results, finishing T9 at the Players Championship, T35 at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T30 at the Masters and T3 at the RBC Heritage.

Straka then had a baron spell on the golf course, missing the cut eight times in 11 tournament starts, with his best results being T73, 78th, and T45 at the Memorial Tournament.

However, he appears to have turned the corner, placing second at the FedEx St Jude Championship, T28 at the BMW Championship and T7 at the Tour Championship.

The Austrian does not have a good record at this event, missing the cut four times in a row, including last year.

Despite Straka's unimpressive results at the Sanderson Farms Championship, he has been a winner this year and has been in great touch in recent starts and is value each-way shot.

Verdict

Theegala has posted good results throughout the year and can win in this field.

Stallings is holding form and can go close at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Grillo's consistency can be rewarded with a winning performance in Mississippi.

Straka has played well recently and will fancy his chances to win his second tournament of the year.
