Atlanta Braves at Milwaukee Brewers Picks & Betting Tips

Atlanta can win Game 2 of the NLDS and even the series at 1-1.

Max Fried has been terrific over the last two months, particularly on the road where the 27-year-old has surrendered just four runs over 43 innings in his last six starts on the road.

Atlanta had several good cuts against Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff in his only outings against the Braves this year, compiling a .348 batting average.

The Brewers do not hit well at American Family Field and they have struggled against left-handed starters (.227).

  • Atlanta is 7-2 in its last 9 nine games on the road
  • The Braves have won 10 of Max Fried’s last 11 starts
  • The Braves are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game
  • Atlanta is 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series
  • The Braves are 7-1 in their last 8 road games vs. a right-handed starter.
  • Milwaukee is 1-4 in their last 5 playoff games
  • The Brewers have lost each of Brandon Woodruff’s last four starts.

Head to Head

Rowdy Tellez’s two-run homer in the seventh inning spoiled Charlie Morton’s gem and gave Milwaukee a 2-1 victory over Atlanta on Friday night. The team’s combined for nine hits and 18 strikeouts.

The Brewers have won two straight meetings against the Braves and leads the season series 4-3.

Atlanta has outscored Milwaukee 30-28.

Atlanta Braves Form

Atlanta had its two-game winning streak snapped with Friday’s setback to Milwaukee.

The Braves have won 12 of 15 games and are 16-9 over its last 25 games, outscoring their opponents 123-83.

Atlanta is 46-36 on the road and 65-56 vs. RHPs.

Left-hander Max Fried (14-7, 3.04 ERA, 1.09 WHIP) has been almost unhittable over the last two months, allowing 48 hits and 15 runs over 74 innings of work while walking 9 and striking out 64.

Fried, who has gone at least 6 innings in each of his last six starts, went 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA, 0.732 WHIP as well as .162 BAA in September.

Fried did not pitch against the Brewers this year.

Freddie Freeman, coming off one of the best seasons of his career, has fared decently well against Brandon Woodruff in his career – compiling a slash line of .333/.333/.667 in nine at-bats. Freeman has a hit in six of his last eight games.

Joc Pederson had a pinch hit home run last night, marking his third home run in the last five games. He has three career hits against Woodruff with two of those knocks ending up over the fence.

Milwaukee Brewers Form

Milwaukee snapped a four-game losing streak with Friday’s win over Atlanta.

The Brewers are 12-13 over their past 25 games with a zero run differential (105-105).

Milwaukee is 46-36 at home and 20-19 vs. LHPs.

Right-hander Brandon Woodruff (9-10, 2.56 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his last six starts.

Woodruff has been hit pretty hard over the last three months and has allowed 9 of his 18 home runs during this stretch. He was 0-3 with a 4.09 ERA and a .262 BAA over 22.1 innings of work in September.

Woodruff allowed eight hits and three runs along with one home run in 5.1 innings in his only outing against the Braves.

1B Rowdy Tellez, who went 1-for-3 with a home run on Friday night, hit .274 with seven homers in 56 games with Milwaukee this year. Tellez has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games.

3B Eduardo Escobar, who compiled an .808 OPS over the last month, extended his hitting streak to five after going 1-for-3 last night. He has hit safely in 8 of 10 games.

Verdict

Expect a pitching duel as both pitchers have been rock solid this year and each team has had their troubles at the plate.

Atlanta is in very good form and Fried has been dealing lately. Meanwhile, Milwaukee is not in great form and the Brewers have struggled to produce runs when Woodruff has been on the mound this year. Plus, Woodruff has been susceptible to the long ball recently.
