Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros Picks & Betting Tips

Chicago can win Game 2 of the ALDS and even the series at 1-1.

Houston has a vaunted lineup, but Chicago has hit left-handers starters well this year, and starting pitcher Lucas Giolito has been throwing the pill well lately.

  • Chicago is 8-4 in its last 12 games, which includes winning 4 of 6 on the road
  • Chicago are 12-4 in their last 16 games following a loss
  • Chicago are 40-17 in their last 57 games vs. a left-handed starter
  • Chicago has won each of Giolito’s last five starts
  • Chicago are 17-14 in Giolito’s 31 starts
  • Houston is 63-74 as the favorite

Head To Head

Houston defeated Chicago 6-2 in Game 1 on Thursday afternoon to snap a two-game losing streak to the White Sox

The Astros lead the season-series 6-2, which includes winning all five contests at Minute Maid Park
Houston has outscored Chicago 41-23 this year

Chicago White Sox Form

Chicago has lost two straight as the White Sox closed the regular season with a 5-1 home setback to Detroit.

The White Sox have won 8 of the past 12 games.

The White Sox are 17-13 since Sept. 1, outscoring their opponents 130-115.

Chicago is 40-42 on the road and 25-17 vs. LHPs.

Right-hander Lucas Giolito (11-9, 3.59 ERA, 1.10 WHIP) gets the ball in Game 2.

Giolito has been very good over the last two months, allowing just 14 runs over his last nine starts.

Giolito threw a complete-game, three-hit, one-run gem where he also struck out eight in his only start against the Astros (July 17).

SS Tim Anderson, who led the team in hitting with a .309 average, enters Friday’s contest on a six-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 15 of 16 games overall.

DH Jose Abreu, who led the team in HRs and RBIs, and Luis Robert each had multi-hit games in Game 1 against the Astros. The White Sox managed seven hits in the game.

Houston Astros Form

Houston has won three straight and five of seven overall – all seven games at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros are 18-13 over their last 31 games, outscoring 170-133.

Houston is 52-30 at home this year and 62-29 vs. RHPs.

Left-hander Framber Valdez (11-6, 3.14 ERA, 1.25 WHIP) gets the ball for the Astros tonight.

Valdez allowed four hits, including two home runs, and four runs over 5.0 innings in a 8-6 loss to Oakland on Oct. 1. He has allowed four or more runs in three of his last five outings.

Valdez is 1-1 with 4.05 ERA and a .245 OBA over 13.1 innings in two starts against Houston this year.

Houston, which has scored six or more runs in four straight games, rapped out 10 hits against the White Sox on Thursday. Michael Brantley and Yordan Alverez, who hit a home run, combined to go for 4-for-7 with two runs and four RBIs in the game. Jake Myers and Carlos Correa each also had a multi-hit game last night.

Brantley, who has 5 hits in last 15 at-bats, has compiled a slash line of .500/.500/1.083 in 12 career at-bats against Giolito.

SS Jose Altuve, who is 3 hits in 10 at-bats with 2 HRs against Giolito, is hitting .500 (7-14) with five runs scored over the last three games.

This could be a relatively blowout. Chicago hits left-handers starters well and Giolito, who has been pretty good on the road this year, has enjoyed success against the Astros current lineup. In addition, the White Sox have hit Valdez, who is not in great form, pretty hard this year.
