San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres Picks & Betting Tips

Both teams are coming a day-off on Monday.

San Francisco (97-53) has the best record in the majors, although the Giants hold just a one- game advantage over the Dodgers in the NL West.

The Giants have lost three of five and are 7-3 in the last 10.  San Francisco is 49-26 at home and 70-33 against RHPs.

After a spectacular first half, Gausman has been less dominant over the last three months. Gausman, who has a post -All-Star break ERA of 4.77 and a WHIP of 1.44, has permitted 10 runs and 3 homers over his last 18 innings of work. He gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in 5 innings in a 7-4 loss to the Padres in his last outing (Sept. 16).

San Diego (76-73) is in third place in NL West, 20.5 games behind the Giants. However, the Padres are just 3.5 games out of the final wild card spot.

The Padres have lost three straight and are 2-8 in their last 10. San Diego is 44-31 at home and 52-55 vs. RHPs.

Musgrave, who has given up 6 homers in the last 6 games, has allowed three or fewer runs in each of his last five starts. The 28-year-old picked up the win over the Giants, in his last start on Sept. 15, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, including 2 home runs, while striking out 4 and walking three in 6 innings of work.

Head To Head

San Diego has won the last two meetings against San Francisco but trails in the season-series 7-6. The Giants have outscored the Padres 56-51.

The Padres and Giants have split the six previous games at Petco Park with San Diego outscoring San Francisco 17-16.

San Francisco Giants Form

San Francisco had its two-game winning streak snapped in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Atlanta on Sunday.

The Giants managed just four hits in series finale. The teams combined for 16 runs with each squad totaling 8 runs apiece.

The Giants are 13-6 in September, outscoring their opponents 106-66.

San Francisco’s offense has produced 6.9 runs over the last 13 games with a slash line of .290/.384/.554.

The Giants’ pitching staff has compiled a 11-3 record during this 14-game stretch with a 3.38 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and .242 OBA.

San Diego Padres Form

San Diego is coming off a sweep at the hands of St. Louis, getting outscored 19-11. The Cardinals won the season finale 8-7 as St. Louis scored five runs in the opening frame with help from a Fernando Tatis error.

The Padres are 5-11 are 5-11 in September, getting outscored 88-61.

San Diego’s offense has compiled 3.4 runs over the last 12 contests with a slash line of .231/.287/.326.

The Padres’ pitching staff has compiled a 3-9 record during this 12-game stretch with a 6.03 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and .245 OBA.

Verdict

San Francisco is in excellent form. The Giants, who have been “raking” at the plate over the past week, have really struggled against the Padres pitching this year – averaging just over 4 runs while combining to hit .225 overall for the season while producing a paltry .582 OPS at Petco Park.

While Gausman has not pitched particularly well of late, he has been very good on the road (2.11 ERA) this season and has fared well against the Padres – posting a 2-1 record while allowing 7 runs and posting a .239 BAA. He also has been terrific at Petco Park, allowing 2 runs in 13 innings.

San Diego has been a mess lately. The Padres have hit well against the Giants, but they have not been able to score many runs (3.9 a game).
