Toronto Blue Jays at Minnesota Twins Picks & Betting Tips

Toronto (85-68) is very much in playoff contention as the Blue Jays are 1.0 game behind the New York Yankees for the final playoff spot and 3.0 games behind fourth place Boston.

The Blue Jays have lost two straight and are 5-5 in last 10. Toronto is 42-37 on the road and 64-48 vs. RHPs.

Berrios is making his 11th start for the Blue Jays and has been much better over his last five outings for the team compared to his first five starts. The 27-year-old is 4-1 during this recent five-game stretch while allowing 23 hits and 10 runs over 34 innings of work. He has also struck out 36 and walked just 3.

Minnesota (68-95) has the third worst loss in the AL and will miss the playoffs for first time in three years.

The Twins have won three straight and are 5-5 in their last 10.  Minnesota is 35-40 at home and 50-51 vs. RHPs.

Ober, who has gone 6 innings in just two of his 19 starts this season, has thrown 12.1 innings over his last three starts as he has given up 15 hits and 9 runs while striking out 13 and walking 2.

Head To Head

Minnesota defeated Toronto 7-2 on Thursday as Nick Gordon hit a three-run home run to key a four-run fifth inning. The Twins out-hit the Blue Jays 13-11 and Michael Pineda scattered eight hits while giving up just two runs in five innings of work.

The season-series is tied at 2-2. The Twins have outscored the Blue Jays 19-16.

Toronto Blue Jays Form

Toronto has lost two straight and three of four.

The Blue Jays are 16-5 in September, outscoring their opponents 143-88.

The Blue Jays offense is averaging 6.1 runs over the last 15 games while compiling a slash line of .280/.351/.504.

Toronto’s pitching staff has compiled a 9-6 record over this 15 game-stretch with a 4.75 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and .243 OBA.

Minnesota Twins Form

Minnesota has won three straight and four of six.

The Twins are 10-11 in September, getting outscored 82-90.

Minnesota’s offense is averaging 4.0 runs over the last 14 games with a slash line of .235/.296/.443.

The Twins’ pitching staff has compiled a 6-8 record over this 14-game stretch with a 4.45 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and .260 OBA.

Toronto really needs this game and while the Blue Jays have sputtered recently, they have been in-good form overall. Berrios has been very consistent over his last five start, although he has given up a home run in each of his last four starts. He picked up a victory against his former teammates at the Rogers Centre (Sept. 19) as he allowed three runs on four hits over 6.2 innings in a 5-3 Blue Jays win. Berrios has pitched very well at night and at Target Field this year.

Minnesota has played decently well this month, but Ober has a real tough matchup against a Blue Jays offense that has been swinging the bats extremely well. Ober, who permitted four runs in 4 innings the only other time he has faced the Jays, is prone to give up the long ball (19 HRs) and the Blue Jays average nearly two homers in their last 15 contests.
