Jan Blachowicz is looking to bounce back after losing the UFC light-heavyweight title last time out.
The 39-year-old Polish fighter did not make the best of starts to his UFC career, but a great run between 2019 and 2021 propelled him to the top of the 205lb division.
He won five straight fights as he claimed the title and made a successful defence of the crown.
Blachowicz responded to a defeat to Thiago Santos by knocking out former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.
He then followed that up with a split decision win over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza and first-round knockout of Corey Anderson.
That earned the Polish ace a shot at the vacant light-heavyweight title and he took his chance, finishing Dominick Reyes in the second round.
Blachowicz’s first defence saw him earn a decision win over middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, but that would prove to be his only successful defence.
He lost the belt to Glover Teixeira when he was submitted in the second round last September.
That loss left Blachowicz with a 28-9 record, with eight wins coming by KO/TKO and nine by submission.
In his nine career losses he has been knocked out twice and submitted twice.
Aleksandar Rakic Form
Aleksandar Rakic is one of the rising stars of the UFC light-heavyweight division and is looking to claim the biggest win of his career.
Rakic signed with the UFC in the second half of 2017 and embarked on a four-fight win streak that saw him rise the ladder quickly,
The 30-year-old Austrian began his UFC career with decision wins over Francimar Barroso and Justin Ledet.
He then registered his first stoppage win in the UFC when he knocked out Devin Clark in the first round.
Rakic made it back-to-back knockout wins when he took out Jimi Manuwa in less than a minute, but his win streak was halted before the end of 2019.
He went the distance with Volkan Oezdemir and came out on the losing end of a split decision.
The Austrian fighter has responded well though, getting his career back on track with a couple of wins.
He bested Anthony Smith over three rounds in his sole outing of 2020, and then claimed a decision win over Thiago Santos in his only fight in 2021.
The victories took Rakic’s record to 14-2, with nine wins coming by KO/TKO and one by submission.
In his two career defeats, the Austrian light-heavyweight has one submission loss and one decision defeat.
Verdict
Jan Blachowicz lost last time out, but there is plenty of gas left in the ex-champions tank.
His strong all-round game and big-fight experience is tipped to be the difference here.
