Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Rams Picks & Betting Tips

Los Angeles can cover in a season-opening win over Chicago on Sunday Night Football.

The Rams have massively upgraded at QB in the offseason and that defense remains an elite group.

Aaron Donald & Co. can make it a very long night for Andy Dalton and that shaky Chicago offensive line.

The Bears will struggle to put points on the board and the defense, just like last season, will be worn down by being on the field too much.

LA should win this comfortably and cover. And for the third straight meeting, this could be low-scoring.

  • Los Angeles Rams were 9-7 against the spread last season
  • Los Angeles Rams were 5-3 against the spread at home last season
  • Los Angeles Rams have beaten Chicago Bears in each of the last two seasons
  • Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford ranked #12 in passing yards last season (w/ Detroit)
  • Chicago Bears were 1-4 against the spread last season when it was 6+ points
  • Chicago Bears ranked #22 in total points last season (372)
  • Chicago Bears ranked #26 in total offense last season
  • Chicago Bears QB Andy Dalton ranked just #25 in passer rating last season (87.3)
  • Chicago Bears defense is weakest at cornerback after losing Kyle Fuller
  • Los Angeles Rams vs Chicago Bears have produced -44.0 points in each of the last 3 seasons

Head To Head

  • Chicago Bears lead the all-time series 54-38-3
  • Los Angeles Rams won 24-10 in the last meeting in October 2020

Chicago Bears Form

Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace held on to their jobs despite another miserable season offensively in 2020.

The Bears enjoyed a late-season surge against poor opposition after Nagy gave up playcalling and Mitchell Trubisky was reinstalled at starting QB.

They scraped into the playoffs despite losing to Green Bay in Week 17, but were soundly beaten by New Orleans.

Trubisky is gone and Chicago have drafted college star Justin Fields, but Andy Dalton will start here.

The pressure is firmly on Nagy and Dalton to hit the ground running but they could not have asked for a much worse Week 1 game.

The Bears are visiting LA and one of the best defenses in the league. A defense they have scored just seven points against in the last two seasons.

Los Angeles Rams Form

Los Angeles made it to the postseason for the third time in four years in 2020.

The Rams finished second in the NFC West with a 10-6 record and then beat the Seahawks in Seattle on Wildcard Weekend.

Their season came to an end though. With Aaron Donald hurt, the Rams lost in Green Bay.

LA are being backed for another postseason run in 2021 and they return that dominant defense.

They have also made a huge upgrade at QB by trading Jared Goff for Matthew Stafford. They should enjoy a significant improvement on offense with Stafford under center.

Los Angeles have hosted Week 1 opponents Chicago in each of the last two seasons, winning 17-7 and 24-10.

Verdict

NBC hoped Justin Fields would start for Chicago here when they scheduled this matchup. He won’t.

Andy Dalton will start and an immobile QB behind a shaky offensive line is huge problem against Aaron Donald and this LA Defense.

The Rams can cover in what is likely to be another low-scoring clash between these two teams.
