Houston Texans Form

Houston went with Tyrod Taylor over Deshaun Watson against Jacksonville. The decision paid off.

The Texans stormed to a 27-7 halftime lead and never looked back as they wrecked the NFL debuts of Trevor Lawrence and Urban Meyer.

Taylor was 21/33 for 291 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 40 yards off four carries.

Mark Ingram was used heavily as he carried the ball 26 times for 85 yards and a TD. Phillip Lindsay also had a rushing score.

Brandin Cooks hauled in five of his seven targets for 132 receiving yards.

On defense, three different players picked off Lawrence as the Jaguars QB was given a rude welcome to the league.

Cleveland were beaten in their season-opener but were not disgraced at Kansas City.

The Browns took a 29-20 lead in the fourth quarter when ex-Chief Kareem Hunt went in from two yards.

However, they gave up a huge touchdown play seconds later and then gifted KC great field position with a botched punt.

The Chiefs took full advantage and Cleveland’s misery was complete when Baker Mayfield threw a pick.

Mayfield went 21/28 for 321 yards and an interception as the Browns leaned on the run game.

Nick Chubb rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns off 15 carries, while also picking up 18 receiving yards.

Fellow running back Hunt had 33 yards and a TD off six carries, while also picking up 28 yards receiving.

David Njoku led in receiving yards with 76, while Jarvis Landry caught all of his targets for 71 yards. Landry also rushed for 13 yards and a TD.

Verdict

Houston impressed in Week 1, but there is a much tougher challenge awaiting them on Sunday.

Cleveland will be kicking themselves for blowing that late lead in KC but they can bounce back here.

Their strong point is Houston’s biggest weakness. A heavy dose of the run should lead the Browns to victory.
