New England Patriots Form

New England faltered badly after a late-season bye but managed to scrape into the postseason.

The Patriots went on a tear from late October as they won seven straight games to keep the heat on Buffalo in the AFC East.

That run included a huge 14-10 win in Buffalo in atrocious conditions at the start of December.

New England went into their bye after that victory, but when they returned to action they threw away their shot at winning the division.

The Patriots suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Indianapolis and Buffalo, before finally getting their 10th win on the board with a 50-10 destruction of Jacksonville.

They were unable to wrap up the regular season with a win though, falling to a 33-24 defeat in Miami.

Rookie QB Mac Jones ended the regular season 352/521 for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Jakobi Meyers led the team in receiving with 866 yards and two touchdowns off 83 catches, with Hunter Henry led the team in receiving TDs with nine.

Jones was able to lean on his running backs throughout the season with Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson combining for 1,535 yards and 20 TDs on the ground.

New England’s defense played a key role in getting the Patriots to the postseason, allowing just 17.8 points per game (second in the league behind Buffalo).

Buffalo Bills Form

Buffalo overcame some poor form between November and mid-December to win the AFC East.

The Bills went 3-4 in their first seven games after the bye, a run that included a home defeat to New England and overtime defeat at defending champions Tampa Bay.

It also featured a shock 9-6 defeat on the road in Jacksonville.

A 31-14 win over Carolina proved to be the catalyst for a good run to end the regular season though.

Buffalo followed that up with a 33-21 win over the Patriots in New England, before wrapping up an 11-6 campaign with wins over Atlanta and the New York Jets.

QB Josh Allen ended the regular season 409/646 for 4,407 yards, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also had 763 rushing yards and six scores.

Stefon Diggs led the team in receiving, hauling in 103 of his 164 targets for 1,225 yards and 10 touchdowns.

RB Devin Singletary went for 1,098 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. 870 of those yards came on the ground.

This all resulted in Buffalo finishing third in the league in points scored per game, averaging 28.4 per outing.

The defense more than played its part too, allowing just 17.0 points and 272.8 yards per game to lead the league in both of those statistics.
