Philadelphia Flyers vs Washington Capitals Prediction and Pick - ExpertPicks

Washington have had one game in seven days, and they should pull away from a Philadelphia team playing for the second straight night.

Fresh legs are the edge in this Flyers vs Capitals prediction, with the Philadelphia Flyers arriving at Capital One Arena a night after an overtime loss to face the rested Washington Capitals, and puck drop set for 7.30 p.m. ET.

I'd rather take Washington by two at 2.10 than lay 1.43 on the moneyline. The Flyers score 1.93 goals a game and have managed just nine in six road games, so even a Caps team that allows 3.2 a night shouldn't need much more than four to cover. Four of Washington's six wins have come by two or more.

Alex Tuch has been the best thing about Washington's new-look forward group, with seven goals in 10 games. He scored twice on Saturday, and a Philadelphia team that gives up 30.3 shots a game will leave him room.

Matvei Michkov is the Flyer I want even with Washington winning. He has five goals in his last five games and four on the power play this season, so one man advantage is enough.

  • Washington are 5-2 at Capital One Arena.
  • Philadelphia are averaging just 23.3 shots per game.
  • Tuch is averaging 2.7 shots per game.
  • Michkov has scored in six of his 14 games.

Head to Head

The 2025-26 season series finished 2-2, with each team winning both of its home games. Tonight is the first of four meetings this season.

The last meeting was March 31 at Capital One Arena, a 6-4 Washington win. Philadelphia erased a 2-0 deficit, but power-play goals from Jakob Chychrun and Ryan Leonard in the second put the Caps back in control, and Alex Ovechkin's second goal of the night restored a two-goal lead before Tom Wilson sealed it into an empty net.

Flyers Form

Philadelphia are 3-7-4, and getting outshot 30.3 to 23.3 a night is why the record looks the way it does.

Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to Columbus started with three Blue Jackets goals in under three minutes of the first period. Jamie Drysdale tied it with 11 seconds left, only for Kent Johnson to win it in overtime. Saturday's 5-4 loss to Anaheim slipped away late, as a 3-2 lead turned into three straight Ducks goals.

Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett are both out, according to CBS Sports, which takes two of the Flyers' top wingers out of an attack that already struggles. Dan Vladar played Tuesday, so Joseph Woll (.904) is the likely starter.

Capitals Form

Washington are 6-4-0, and their 81.2% penalty kill has kept them in games when the play has turned.

Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Buffalo came after falling behind 2-0 in the first, with Dylan Strome scoring twice in the second and Tuch finishing it 3.42 into overtime. Before that, the Kings scored twice in the last 33 seconds of the first period to erase a 2-0 lead, then pulled away for a 5-2 win.

Logan Thompson was a full participant at Tuesday's practice, per the Capitals' preview, but his return from a lower-body injury is still a game-day call. If he can't go, Charlie Lindgren (.886) starts again, and Thompson (.901) would be an upgrade. Jakob Chychrun is expected to play after a maintenance day, keeping the top pair intact.

Verdict

Fresh legs against a team on a back-to-back should give Washington a two-goal win, with Tuch scoring and Michkov getting one back.
