Boston Celtics at Detroit Pistons Predictions & Picks

Detroit are tipped to win the NBA season opener.

The Pistons were one of the league’s best defensive teams last season, but now they have added quality at the other end of the court, offering more threat as an offensive group.

On top of that, this is a team that was excellent at home during the 2025/26 campaign.
  • Detroit Pistons are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings
  • Detroit Pistons are 3-0 in the last 3 meetings at home
  • Detroit Pistons were 31-9 in regular season home games last season
  • The Under cashed in 3 of the 4 meetings last season

Head To Head

  • Boston Celtics lead the all-time series 281-165
  • Detroit Pistons won 104-103 when the two teams last met in January 2026

Boston Celtics Form

Boston head to Detroit having compiled a perfect pre-season campaign, winning all four of their games.

The Celtics sandwiched home wins over Philadelphia, 144-106, and Charlotte, 114-93, with road successes at Cleveland, 124-113, and Philadelphia, 125-120.

They now go into their season opener having retooled since the end of the 2025/26 campaign, making two notable moves.

Boston agreed to a blockbuster trade with Philadelphia that sent Jaylen Brown to the 76ers and brought in veteran Paul George.

The Celtics also made a big move in the free agent market as they signed Mitchell Robinson following his departure from New York.

Detroit Pistons Form

Detroit also go into opening night on the back of a successful pre-season, having won three of their four games.

The Pistons beat Phoenix 109-107, and then answered a 114-108 defeat in Washington with wins over Minnesota, 128-106 on the road, and Toronto, 129-125 at home.

They did not make any blockbuster moves in the offseason, but they did make moves to bolster their offensive threat.

John Collins arrived from the LA Clippers via sign-and-trade, while Isaiah Joe was brought in from Oklahoma City.

Heading out of Detroit were Isaiah Stewart, to Memphis, and Tobias Harris, to San Antonio.
