Golden State Warriors at Los Angeles Lakers Predictions & Picks

Los Angeles are tipped to cover as they open the new era with a victory.

The Lakers overhauled their roster as part of LeBron James’ exit, and with so many new pieces they will almost certainly need some time to gel.

However, they are catching Golden State at a good time – the Warriors are missing several key pieces due to injury, including Jimmy Butler.
  • Los Angeles Lakers have won the last 3 meetings
  • The winning team has covered in each of the previous 10 meetings
  • All 4 of last season’s meetings went under 233.5 total points

Head To Head

  • Los Angeles Lakers lead the all-time series 296-191
  • Los Angeles Lakers won 119-103 when the two teams last met in April 2026

Golden State Warriors Form

Golden State were linked with LeBron James in the offseason, but that deal never materialized and the Warriors appeared to focus on continuity over sweeping changes.

The Warriors did make a couple of notable free agent moves, bringing in Georges Niang and Brandon Williams, while Quinten Post departed for Memphis.

They go into their season opener on the back of a positive pre-season that saw them go 4-2.

Golden State rebounded from a 104-101 loss to the LA Clippers with a 124-98 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, and then answered a 123-118 defeat to Portland with three straight wins.

The Warriors wrapped up pre-season by beating Sacramento 111-106, the Lakers 101-89, and Portland 128-118.

Los Angeles Lakers Form

Of course, the biggest offseason move for Los Angeles saw the curtain come down on the LeBron James era, sparking a massive roster overhaul as they build around Luka Doncic.

The Lakers traded for Walker Kessler, while also bringing in the likes of Collin Sexton, Matisse Thybulle and Kevon Looney as free agents.

James was followed out of the door by the likes of Deandre Ayton, Rui Hachimura and Marcus Smart.

The new-look Lakers went 2-3 in pre-season, which began with a 127-103 road win in Sacramento.

Los Angeles then bounced back from a 124-98 defeat at Golden State with a 114-110 win over Sacramento, only to close out the pre-season with a defeats to the Warriors, 101-89, and Denver, 121-106.

Verdict

After so many changes there will almost certainly be some teething problems for Los Angeles.

However, they do have Doncic and Reaves to lead the offense while they work things out, and this Warriors group is already hampered by injuries, so give us the Lakers in this one.
