Our golf picks come from our Golfing team at the ExpertPicks desk who also love to get out on the course themselves, allbeit at a slightly different level of skill.

Every course asks different questions. Some reward long driving, others reward accuracy, iron play or putting on fast greens. We match each course to the players whose game suits it, then check recent form, course history and the weather forecast for each round. With 150 players in a field, value matters more than favorites. The best player in the world rarely wins more than a few times a year.

Outright winner - Pick the player who wins the tournament. The odds are often long, because of the size of the field.

Top 5, 10 or 20 finish - Pick a player to finish in the top 5, 10 or 20. It pays less than an outright but wins more often.

Matchups - Pick which of two players scores better over a round or the whole tournament. You don't need either of them to contend.

First-round leader - Pick who leads after the first day.
