Mavericks vs Heat Expert Predictions & Picks

I'm taking the Under 236.5 when Dallas visits Miami on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. ET. I'm also adding Davion Mitchell 7+ assists.

I backed Miami on Saturday and Charlotte made me look like a chump. The Heat are 0-3, haven't really looked like winning and I'm not laying 8.5 with them. But the joys of sports betting is that i don't need to like the game to find a good play.

Kyrie Irving is expected to suit up, but Dallas is still thin. Naji Marshall, Dereck Lively II and Santi Aldama are out, while Cooper Flagg is questionable. The Mavericks are turning it over 19 times a game and Miami is 27th in offensive rating as well as shooting 30.3% from three. Both meetings last season finished at 208 and 226.

Mitchell is the top prop for me, he is averaging 8.7 assists, up from 6.5 last season with greater usage, and he's had 7+ in two of his three games (11 and 10). Dallas gives up 21.3 assists a game to guards, the most in the league.

Key Stats

  • Dallas is averaging 19 turnovers a game
  • Both Mavericks-Heat meetings last season finished at 226 points or fewer
  • Miami ranks 27th in offensive rating and is shooting 30.3% from three
  • Opposing guards are averaging 21.3 assists a game against Dallas, the most in the league

Head to Head

Miami won 106-102 at home in November, and Dallas won 118-108 at home in December. Neither game got past 226 points, and the Heat's home win came by 4. With Dallas this short-handed, there's no reason to expect a shootout this time.

Dallas Mavericks Form

Irving (19.5 points a game) gives Dallas a shot creator again, but the bodies around him keep disappearing. Marshall, the second-unit playmaker at 5.7 assists a game, is out with an illness, and Flagg (23 points a game) is questionable with a shoulder sprain. Without Flagg and Irving on Saturday, Dallas posted a 101.2 offensive rating and gave it away 21 times.

Miami Heat Form

The defense has been bad. Miami is allowing 124.7 points a game, and opponents are hitting 18.3 threes a night. That's the risk on the Under. The bigger problem is the other end, where the Heat have no reliable shooting, and watching their half-court offense takes cricket-level patience.

Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped to 14 points in under 25 minutes on Saturday after scoring 35 and 36. Mitchell has picked up the slack as the main ball-handler, with 22 points and 10 assists in Charlotte.

Verdict

Kyrie's expected back, but Dallas is still missing four rotation players, and Miami can't make a three. Give me the Under, and Mitchell to keep finding open teammates against a defense that's been handing out assists to guards all season.
