Carolina Hurricanes vs Vancouver Canucks Picks - Carolina Pile On

My Hurricanes vs Canucks prediction is a comfortable Carolina win on Tuesday, with goals flowing at Rogers Arena and Andrei Svechnikov scoring again.

The Carolina Hurricanes visit the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena at 10 p.m. ET. Carolina are 7-2-1 and 5-1 on the road, while Vancouver are 2-7-1 and have gone five games without a win.

I'm backing the Hurricanes to win by two or more. Vancouver are allowing 4.5 goals and nearly 33 shots a game, and Carolina are outshooting teams by more than 10 a night.

Over 6.5 goals fits the way Vancouver's games are going. The Canucks have conceded 20 goals in their last five, and their penalty kill has stopped only 58.1% of opponents' power plays.

Svechnikov is my goal-scorer pick. He has six goals in 10 games and scored twice when these teams met earlier this month.

  • Vancouver are winless in five and have been outscored 20-9 in that run.
  • Carolina are 5-1 on the road.
  • Vancouver's penalty kill is at 58.1%.
  • Svechnikov has six goals and scored twice against Vancouver earlier this month.

Hurricanes Form

Shot volume drives everything Carolina do. They're averaging 33.1 shots and allowing just 22.9, and the penalty kill is working at 91.4%.

The last two games came down to the third period. In Winnipeg on Saturday, Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied it in the second and Nikolaj Ehlers won it 3-2 on the power play while Carolina outshot the Jets 37-23. On Sunday in Calgary, Jalen Chatfield tied it with four seconds left in the second, but Yegor Sharangovich scored late in the third to end Carolina's four-game win streak.

Seth Jarvis and Mark Jankowski are both listed out in CBS Sports' game preview, and Jordan Staal and Taylor Hall remain sidelined.

Canucks Form

Vancouver can't keep the puck out of their net. They're allowing 4.5 goals a game, and Kevin Lankinen has an .807 save percentage through six starts.

The last two losses followed the same pattern. In Florida on Thursday, the Canucks led 2-0 into the third before Brady Tkachuk tied it with 13 seconds left and won it in overtime to finish a hat trick. In Tampa on Saturday, they led 2-0 again, then were outshot 35-14 and lost 4-2 after Nikita Kucherov scored twice.

Thatcher Demko is out with a hip injury, per CBS Sports' game preview, and Marco Rossi is day-to-day with an illness.

Verdict

Hurricanes -1.5, with over 6.5 goals and Andrei Svechnikov to score. Carolina have the shot volume and Vancouver don't have the goaltending, so I expect the Hurricanes to pull away.
