The Elks made a miserable start to their campaign as they lost their first seven games, but they gave themselves hope with a good run in August and early September.
They reeled off three straight victories and then rebounded from 21-17 defeat in Montreal with back-to-back wins over Calgary.
Edmonton ran out 35-20 winners in Calgary before returning home to beat the Stampeders 37-16, and that kept them in the postseason picture.
The Elks failed to keep things going though, as they lost back-to-back meetings with Winnipeg, before losing 28-24 at home to Saskatchewan last time out.

Calgary go into this game looking to end a seven-game winless run that ruined their chances of making the postseason.
The Stampeders put themselves in the hunt with four wins from their first eight games, only for their form to completely collapse in August.
They went into their second bye week of the season on the back of two defeats, losing 39-25 in Toronto and 31-29 at home to Toronto.
Calgary returned to action with back-to-back defeats to Edmonton, 35-20 at home and 36-17 on the road, before playing out a 19-19 tie with Montreal.
The Stampeders’ winless run then reached seven games as they lost 37-29 to Saskatchewan and 32-15 at the BC Lions.
Verdict
Both teams are out of the mix, but Edmonton offer more reason for optimism.
