They steadied the ship with 13-5 and 4-2 wins over Texas, but their joy was short-lived as they then lost three straight home meetings with Kansas City, 4-3, 9-4 and 6-1.
Cleveland avoided being swept as they took the final meeting 7-5, and they then backed that up with a 10-8 win over Pittsburgh.
The Guardians failed to make it three-in-a-row as they lost the next game against the Pirates, 3-0, but they did issue an immediate response with a 6-1 victory in the series finale.
Kansas City Royals Form
Kansas City came into this series in desperate need to a victory as they try to stay in the playoff hunt.
The Royals found some form last month as they won seven times in an eight-game spell – a run that included a five-game win streak.
They then responded from a couple of home defeats to Philadelphia with three consecutive wins in Cleveland, beating the Guardians 4-3, 9-4 and 6-1.
Kansas City missed out on the series sweep as they lost the final meeting 7-5, and that proved to be the start of a five-game skid.
The Royals moved on to Houston and were swept in a four-game series by the Astros, losing 6-3, 3-2, 5-2 and 7-2.
Verdict
Cleveland are the team in better form right now and just blew out the Royals last night, so we are riding with the 'hot hand'.
