New York sealed their spot in the playoffs by finishing second in the National League East with an 89-73 record.
The Mets began the season with a five-game losing run and blew hot and cold during the first couple of months of the campaign.
They kept themselves in the mix however, and a good run during the summer, including a nine-game win streak, helped them secure a postseason berth.
New York now face a Milwaukee team that beat them in two of the three meetings in Wisconsin last week.
The Mets go into this series having split a regular season double-header in Atlanta on Monday, winning 8-7 before losing 3-0.

Milwaukee come into the playoffs having put together a 93-69 record to finish top of the National League Central.
The Brewers got off to a hot start, and although there were some dips in the second half of the campaign, they finished 10 games clear of St Louis in the division.
They ended the regular season by winning five of the final seven games on the schedule.
Milwaukee avoided being swept by Arizona as they won the series finale 10-9, and they then went out on the road to win 7-2 and 5-2 either side of a 2-1 defeat in Pittsburgh.
The Brewers returned home after that and wrapped up the regular season against their playoff opponents, the New York Mets, winning 8-4 and 6-0 before losing 5-0.
Verdict
Milwaukee must win this matchup and the good news is they lit up Sean Manea a week ago.
We expect the Brewers to rebound from their Game 1 defeat and set up a winner-takes-all clash.
