Texas Rangers Form
Texas will look to bounce back from a blowout defeat in their first road game of the 2023 World Series.
The Rangers finished the regular season with a 90-72 record and had to settle for second place in the division after losing the head-to-head with Houston.
That meant they faced a trip to Tampa Bay in the Wild Card round, but they made light work of the Rays with 4-0 and 7-1 wins.
Texas then followed that up with a three-game sweep of a Baltimore team that had racked up over 100 regular season wins.
The Rangers put together 3-2 and 11-8 victories on the road, and then returned home to clinch with a 7-1 victory.
They were on a roll and this point and took early control of the American League Championship Series when they recorded 2-0 and 5-4 wins in Houston.
Texas failed to keep their streak going at home though, suffering 8-5, 10-3 and 5-4 defeats that meant they had to go back to Houston and win back-to-back games to advance.
The Rangers did just that though, levelling up the series with a 9-2 win, before clinching a World Series berth with an 11-4 victory.
They needed some late heroics to turn things around in Game 1 against Arizona, rescuing a 6-5 win with a late rally, but there was no such drama as they lost the second game, 9-1.
Arizona Diamondbacks Form
Arizona go into their first home game of the 2023 World Series looking to build on an impressive road win.
The Diamondbacks ended the regular season with an 84-78 record and little was expected from them in the postseason.
However, they caused an immediate upset in the Wild Card round as they swept Milwaukee on the road, courtesy of 6-3 and 5-2 wins.
Arizona then topped that with a sensational sweep of a Los Angeles Dodgers team who had finished 16 games ahead of them in the NL West.
The Diamondbacks stunned the Dodgers with 11-2 and 4-2 wins on the road, before returning home to clinch with a 4-2 victory.
Their postseason run looked to be in serious trouble when they suffered 5-3 and 10-0 defeats in the first two games of the National League Championship Series.
Arizona rebounded to win 2-1 and 6-5 at home, but their 6-1 defeat in Game 5 left them on the brink of an exit when they headed back to Philadelphia.
The Diamondbacks rallied though, securing a place in the 2023 World Series with 5-1 and 4-2 wins over the Phillies.
They blew the series opener in Texas, surrending a late lead to lose 6-5, but they responded in emphatic fashion with a 9-1 victory in Game 2.
Verdict
Arizona have largely been the better team in the World Series so far, despite losing once.
They are in good form at home and Brandon Pfaadt has risen to the occasion in the playoffs so far, so we are backing the Diamondbacks to take Game 3.
