Zhang Weili vs Amanda Lemos Preview & Picks
Zhang Weili is tipped to retain her UFC women’s strawweight title via stoppage.
Amanda Lemos is a dangerous striker, but so is Zhang and she is the more well-rounded fighter.
She also has more experience in big fights, so we expect Zhang bully Lemos and get the stoppage.
- 19 of Zhang’s 23 career wins have been by stoppage
- All 19 of Zhang’s stoppages have come in under 2.5 rounds
- Both of Lemos’ career defeats have come by finish
- Lemos’ 2 stoppage losses came in under 2.5 rounds
Zhang Weili Form
Zhang Weili is the UFC women’s strawweight champion and has a professional record of 23-3 (11 KOs, 8 Subs).
Zhang debuted in the UFC in August 2018 and forced her way into a title shot in the space of 12 months.
She beat Danielle Taylor and Tecia Torres by unanimous decision and Jessica Aguilar by first-round submission to earn her shot at the title.
‘Magnum’ took her big chance in impressive fashion too, knocking out Jessica Andrade in just 42 seconds to claim the women’s strawweight title.
Then, in her first defence, Zhang edged former world champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk by split decision.
The 34-year-old Chinese fighter only managed once successful defence though, as she was knocked out by Rose Namajunas in just 78 seconds at UFC 261 in April 2021.
Zhang then dropped the rematch by split decision later that year, but she rebounded with a couple of wins in 2022.
She knocked out Jedrzejczyk in the second round of their rematch, and then regained the women’s strawweight title with a second-round submission of Carla Esparza.
Amanda Lemos Form
Amanda Lemos is the #5 ranked contender with a professional record of 13-2-1 (8 KOs, 3 Subs).
Lemos debuted in the UFC in July 2017 and got off to a disappointing start as she was knocked out in the second round by Leslie Smith.
She spent over two years on the sidelines after that loss, but when she did return she bounced back and sparked a five-fight win streak.
The 36-year-old Brazilian beat Miranda Granger by first-round submission, and then followed that up with a unanimous decision victory over Mizuki Inoue.
Lemos then flashed her fight-finishing power as she knocked out both Livia Renata Souza and Montserrat Ruiz in the first round.
A split decision win against Angela Hill followed, but her streak ended last April as she was tapped out by Jessica Andrade in the opening round.
Lemos rebounded quickly though, submitting Michelle Waterson in the second round and knocking out Marina Rodriguez in the third to finish 2022 on a high.
Verdict
Lemos is a threat of the feet, but she lacks experience in big fights against top opponents.
Zhang has spent years competing with the best and her blueprint to victory is straightforward – bully and finish.
