The Mavericks began 2024 with a 127-90 blowout loss in Utah, but did not have to wait too long for their first win of the calendar year.
They beat Portland 126-97, and then backed that up with another win over the Trail Blazers, 139-103, before beating Minnesota 115-108.
Dallas’ run was ended by a 120-103 loss to Memphis, and although they bounced back to beat New York 128-124, they have not won back-to-back game since.
The Mavericks suffered a 118-108 defeat to New Orleans over the weekend, before avenging that with a 125-120 victory against the Pelicans on Monday.
Los Angeles Lakers Form
Los Angeles come into this game in bad form, having won just three of their last nine games.
The Lakers ended 2023 with a couple of road defeats, losing 108-106 in Minnesota before falling 129-109 in New Orleans.
Their losing skid then reached four games when they returned home for a 110-96 defeat to Miami and a 127-113 loss to Memphis.
Los Angeles snapped out of their funk with a 106-103 win over the LA Clippers, before downing Toronto 132-131, but they were unable to keep that run going.
The Lakers lost 127-109 at home to Phoenix and 132-125 on the road in Utah, but do enter this matchup on the back of a 112-105 win against Oklahoma City.
Verdict
Dallas have had Los Angeles' number this season so they make for appealing underdogs here, especially if Luka Doncic is cleared to play.
