Germany are surprise finalists, having overcome a miserable start with a red-hot run of form.
The schedule-makers did the Germans no favours as they paired them with elite teams over the first few games.
That resulted in a 1-0 defeat to Sweden, a 4-3 loss to Finland and a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the United States.
Germany stopped the rot with a 6-4 win against Denmark, and they have been on a tear ever since.
They booked a place in the knockout stage by beating Austria 4-2, Hungary 7-2 and France 5-0 to wrap up their group schedule.
The Germans then stunned Switzerland 3-1 in the quarter-finals, before topping that with a 4-3 overtime upset of the United States in the semi-finals.
