Dallas head back to Canada on the back of a home defeat that has left them one loss away from elimination.
The Stars, who went 52-21-9 in the regular season, opened the playoffs with back-to-back home losses against Vegas, but responded to win four of the next five games against the Golden Knights to progress.
They had to rebound from losing the series opener against Colorado too, and they did it by winning three consecutive games before rebounding from a 5-3 loss with a series-clinching 2-1 overtime victory.
Dallas' unhealthy knack for going behind early in a series continued against Edmonton too as they lost 3-2 in overtime, but they rallied from that early setback with 3-1 and 5-3 wins.
However, the Stars were unable to extend that win sequence and now find themselves behind once again, having lost 5-2 on the road and 3-1 at home.
Edmonton Oilers Form
Edmonton return home with an opportunity to clinch the series after recording another victory in Dallas.
The Oilers, who went 49-27-6 in the regular season, eased through the first round of the postseason with a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles.
The second round series against Vancouver was not as easy, but they finally advanced to the conference finals when they followed up a 5-1 home win in Game 6 with a 3-2 road victory in Game 7.
Edmonton then gave themselves an early advantage in the Western Conference Finals, winning 3-2 in overtime in Dallas, only to then suffer 3-1 and 5-3 defeats to the Stars.
The Oilers have showed their resolve though and are now just one win away from the Stanley Cup Finals, having followed up a 5-2 home win with a 3-1 victory on the road.
