Everton vs Chelsea Predictions
Everton welcome Chelsea to Hill Dickinson Stadium for an intriguing Premier League encounter on Saturday.
The Toffees remain unbeaten this season and should be competitive against a Chelsea side that has a poor record on Merseyside.
Everton double chance is my best bet, while I also expect both teams to score.
Everton Backed to Extend Unbeaten Start
- Everton are unbeaten in their last 8 matches
- Everton have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 5 matches (Premier League)
- Everton are unbeaten in 8 of their last 9 home matches against Chelsea
- Chelsea failed to win 6 of their last 7 away matches (Premier League)
- Chelsea have seen BTTS in 9 of their last 10 matches (Premier League)
Everton Strong in Recent Home Meetings
Everton and Chelsea have met 13 times since 2020. Chelsea won six of those encounters, while Everton claimed four victories. Three games finished level.
Chelsea have not won an away game against Everton since 2022, with only one road victory secured over the past nine years.
Everton Remain Unbeaten After Hull Draw
Everton return to home soil after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Hull City on Sunday.
Joe Gelhardt broke the deadlock in the second half before goals from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Thierno Barry put the Toffees on course for a third successive victory.
Mohamed Belloumi equalised just six minutes after Barry's strike to secure a deserved point for the Tigers.
In a competitive and end-to-end contest, David Moyes' side had a narrow advantage in the final match stats. Everton controlled possession (65%), outshot Hull 15-9 and registered an xG of 1.68 compared to the hosts' 1.33.
A solid start to the season has seen the Toffees remain unbeaten in eight competitive matches. Everton won four and drew four fixtures in that period.
Moyes's men have improved at Hill Dickinson Stadium this season. Everton won three of their four competitive home matches, beating Crystal Palace, Wolves and Ipswich Town, while drawing 2-2 against Manchester United.
The hosts now sit fifth in the Premier League, ahead of Chelsea on goal difference.
Chelsea Hit Five Against Bournemouth
Chelsea travel to Merseyside after a comprehensive 5-1 victory against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro both scored twice, with Morgan Rogers also on target in an impressive attacking display.
Xabi Alonso's side raced into a two-goal lead inside just three minutes in another deadly performance in front of goal. The Londoners scored five times from just ten shots while recording an xG of only 1.08 compared to Bournemouth's 1.46.
Last weekend's win broke a three-game winless run for the Blues. Chelsea lost 2-1 at Arsenal and 3-0 at Brentford either side of a 2-2 home draw against Hull City before the international break.
Still searching for consistency in their performances, Chelsea won three, drew one and lost two of their first six EPL fixtures. Alonso's men scored 15 goals but have already leaked 13.
Remarkably, the Blues have now failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 22 Premier League fixtures.
Everton vs Chelsea Team News
Everton: (4-2-3-1) Jordan Pickford; Ainsley Maitland-Niles, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Jarrad Branthwaite; James Garner, Harrison Armstrong; Brennan Johnson, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jack Grealish; Thierno Barry.
Everton boss Moyes has a near-fully fit squad available this weekend. Vitaliy Mykolenko, who missed Sunday's draw with Hull, is likely to remain sidelined.
Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to continue at left-back in Mykolenko's absence, with Michael Keane remaining at centre-back.
Thierno Barry should lead the line after scoring his third goal of the season at Hull, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish providing creativity in the final third.
Speaking to the BBC, Scottish boss Moyes expressed frustration with his side's performance in the draw at Hull last time out:
"I'm really frustrated with the levels generally. Our level was way below where we've been recently."
“Disappointed that when we went 2-1 up I didn't think there'd be any way we would go on to not to win the game. But a couple of defensive mistakes didn't help, and we also missed quite a lot of chances ourselves, which would've made it easier."
Chelsea: (3-4-2-1) Emiliano Martinez; Josh Acheampong, Maxence Lacroix, Levi Colwill; Pedro Neto, Jordan Henderson, Moises Caicedo, Pep Chavarria; Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers; Joao Pedro.
Chelsea boss Alonso is likely to keep faith with much of the side that defeated Bournemouth. Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro should retain their places after their two-goal salvos last weekend.
England Full-back Reece James is likely to miss out while Jamie Gittens remains sidelined with an ankle injury.
Also praised his side after their dominant win against Bournemouth:
"Today was a complete performance,' he said. 'We were in control for most parts of the game, so I’m happy with that."
'We had good stability. In defence, there were a couple of situations in the first half, and for eight minutes in the second, after conceding the goal, we were not in control until we made it 4-1. But overall, I'm happy with the control and the performance."
"There are many positives to take into the future and to keep going."
Verdict
An entertaining battle of the Blues should be expected at Hill Dickinson Stadium this weekend.
Chelsea have a poor record in this fixture, and with Everton still unbeaten this season, I fancy the hosts to pick up a positive result.
Everton double chance looks like a good value choice, with both teams also backed to score.
