Manchester City vs PSG Predictions
Manchester City welcome PSG to the Etihad Stadium for a mouthwatering Champions League encounter on Wednesday.
Both teams love to get forward, and a back-and-forth battle seems near-certain to deliver in the goal markets.
BTTS & over 2.5 goals is my best bet, while I also fancy the hosts to score at least two goals.
Goals Backed at the Etihad
- Manchester City scored 2+ goals in 6 of their last 8 matches
- Manchester City have seen an average of 3.44 goals scored per game in their last 8 matches
- Manchester City scored 2+ goals in 5 of their last 7 matches against PSG
- PSG have seen BTTS & over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches
- PSG conceded 2+ goals in 3 of their last 7 matches
City Hold the Head-to-Head Advantage
Manchester City and PSG have met on eight previous occasions in competitive fixtures. City won four of those games while PSG secured two wins. Two matches finished level.
City won each of three previous meetings in Manchester while PSG secured a 4-2 win in their most recent encounter in Paris nearly two years ago.
Manchester City Put Three Past Liverpool
Manchester City return to Champions League action after an impressive 3-0 victory at Liverpool on Sunday.
A tight contest swung in City's favour after Ryan Gravenberch was sent off for a second booking in the second half. Erling Haaland opened the scoring shortly thereafter, before Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki completed a comfortable road win.
Gravenberch's dismissal proved decisive after an evenly balanced first half. City finished with 65% possession and a 15-13 advantage in shots.
Enzo Maresca's side also recorded a higher xG of 1.28 compared to Liverpool's 0.94.
Sunday's success maintained City's perfect start to the Premier League season, with six wins secured from six fixtures. Across all competitions, they have now won each of their last eight matches, scoring 23 goals in the process.
Maresca's men have been particularly impressive at the Etihad. The Citizens scored five goals against both Norwich City and Sunderland in their two most recent home contests.
The under-fire EPL side began their Champions League campaign with a 2-0 victory at Porto last month. Erling Haaland scored both goals in another routine win for City.
PSG See Off Le Mans
PSG travel to Manchester after a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Le Mans at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.
Lucas Beraldo's first-half penalty gave Paris the lead before Louis Mafouta equalised after the break.
The Ligue 1 champions required the introduction of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to restore their advantage before summer signing Maghnes Akliouche secured victory at the Parc des Princes.
Despite a spirited effort from the away side, PSG were good value for their win. The Parisiens dominated possession (73%), outshot Le Mans 22-11 and recorded a significantly higher xG of 4.25 compared to the visitors' 1.43.
After a slow start to the season, Luis Enrique's side have now won each of their last four matches, with 12 goals scored in that period.
Despite their recent improvement, PSG have kept only one clean sheet in their last seven competitive games. They conceded twice in each of their opening three league fixtures and could have conceded more in last weekend's win against Le Mans.
The two-in-a-row UCL title-holders made an emphatic start to their Champions League defence with a 6-1 win against Slovan Bratislava last month.
Manchester City vs PSG Team News
Manchester City: (4-2-3-1) Gianluigi Donnarumma; Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi, Nico O'Reilly; Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez; Antoine Semenyo, Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku; Erling Haaland.
City boss Maresca has no reported injury concerns ahead of Wednesday's contest.
Phil Foden is available again after completing his three-match domestic suspension. The England international could earn a recall after missing Sunday's win at Anfield.
Doku is pushing for a start after scoring a superb goal from the bench at Anfield.
Maresca believes his side will need to be at their best to claim the scalp of the European champions this week.
"We need the perfect performance because they are the best team in Europe. They have won the past two Champions Leagues. We need the perfect game but, doing our best, I think we can beat them and be happy at the end."
PSG: (4-3-3) Matvey Safonov; Achraf Hakimi, Ilya Zabarnyi, Willian Pacho, Nuno Mendes; Joao Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Ousmane Dembele, Ferran Torres, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
PSG boss Luis Enrique is expected to recall several regular starters after rotating his side against Le Mans. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz and Nuno Mendes are all expected to return to the first XI.
Senny Mayulu and Alessandro Longoni remain long-term absentees.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Luis Enrique expressed his wish to see City avoid sanctions for breaching Premier League financial rules.
"The first thing that you hear, it is a surprise, but we need to respect the process and wait for the final decision.
"The authorities are responsible for making these decisions. But speaking only about football, they deserved those trophies. I love their football. Beyond that, we have to wait for the decision.
"The trophies you win on the pitch remain on the pitch. They deserved to win that, and I hope they can avoid the sanction. But we have to wait."
Verdict
All eyes will be on Manchester on Wednesday for a likely entertaining Champions League contest.
With so much attacking quality expected to be on show, a high-scoring outcome seems inevitable.
BTTS & over 2.5 goals is my best bet. I'm also backing Manchester City over 1.5 team goals.
