Vancouver Whitecaps vs San Diego Predictions & Picks
Vancouver Whitecaps are still in control of the top of the Western Conference, but they can take little for granted with FC Dallas a single point behind them.
San Diego have lost serious ground on the top-nine in the MLS with the side now six short of LA Galaxy in ninth.
- San Diego have seen both sides score in their last six
Head To Head
The pair have met four times before, with Vancouver winning twice, San Diego winning once and one game ending as a draw.
Vancouver Whitecaps Form
Vancouver Whitecaps have been good this season, but their campaign has not been without issues across their 31 matches.
16 wins, seven draws and eight defeats have seen the Western Conference leaders onto 55 points. FC Dallas sit a point and a place behind them, while St Louis are four points short of the leaders. Having lost eight times, Vancouver have not been unbeatable, although they have generally found a way to come out on top.
Against San Diego, Vancouver are looking to make it three successive wins after beating their opponents 3-1 and 4-2. All four of their matches against San Diego have seen both sides score, and while the disparity in form between the pair is large, I predict that the home side will win this one despite conceding.
San Diego Form
San Diego may have proved tough to beat across their last six, but they have failed to land a killer blow in any of these matches, drawing five times and losing once.
This run gets even worse when extending to their last nine, with the side losing four matches and drawing five times. With just five points coming from a possible 27, it is hardly surprising to see San Diego languishing six short of LA Galaxy in ninth.
Just two wins in 15 away games paints a picture of a side that has found winning on the road incredibly tough, and despite tipping them to find the back of the net for the seventh successive game, I do not see them winning this one.
Verdict
I am backing Vancouver to surge to an important win as both sides score for the fifth successive meeting between the pair.
