Rafael Jodar is coming off a confidence-boosting three-set victory over an in-form Jiri Lehecka and has plenty of reasons to believe he can continue his impressive run.

The Spaniard has enjoyed an excellent hard-court season, recording 28 wins against 11 losses, and his motivation should be particularly high as he continues to pursue ATP Finals qualification. This looks like a good opportunity for the youngster to build on his recent success.

Jodar Closes In on Another Masters Quarterfinal

  • Van de Zandschulp has a 0-3 record in fourth-round matches at Masters events.
  • He has won three of his last five matches against top-20 players.
  • Jodar is seeking his fourth Masters quarterfinal.
  • Jodar has a 48-10 record against players ranked outside the top 20 in 2026.

Van de Zandschulp Targets a Career-Best Masters Run

Botic van de Zandschulp reached the fourth round after defeating Arthur Fils in straight sets in Shanghai, 7-5, 6-4. He saved eight of the nine break points he faced and converted three of the six opportunities he created.

Earlier this week, he dropped a set against Daniel Mérida Aguilar but won his other two matches without losing a set, including his previous-round victory over Alex Michelsen. This is a confidence-boosting run, as he had not recorded multiple wins in Shanghai before.

Before the North American swing began, van de Zandschulp struggled for consistency, which kept him outside the top 50. However, quarterfinal appearances in Winston-Salem and at the US Open, along with a fourth-round run in Montreal, helped him return to the top 50 in the rankings.

He is now chasing the first Masters quarterfinal of his career. He had previously played three fourth-round matches at this level, losing all three.

Jodar's Masters Success Highlights His Rapid Rise in 2026

After defeating Thiago Agustín Tirante from a set down in the first round, Rafael Jodar produced another comeback victory against Jiri Lehecka to reach the fourth round in Shanghai, winning 4-6, 7-6, 6-4. After losing the opening set, he saved all four break points he faced for the remainder of the match.

This is an impressive result from the Spanish youngster, whose level had dipped in recent weeks following a demanding schedule earlier this year. That run included seven quarterfinal-or-better finishes on tour, four of which came at Masters-level events or higher.

Although he had not won a tour-level match before 2026, his impressive results this season have helped him break into the top 15 and establish himself as one of the tour's emerging threats.

Jodar has played 10 R16 matches on tour this year, winning seven of them to reach the quarterfinals, including three at Masters events.

Verdict

Jodar's strong hard-court record and growing confidence make him an appealing option in this matchup. Backing Rafael Jodar to win, win in straight sets, and cover the -2.5 games handicap all look like smart picks.
