Guo will hope to carry her Wuhan momentum into Ningbo, but Alexandrova’s recent form makes the Russian the stronger contender.
Alexandrova Aims To Build On Her Previous Ningbo Final
- Guo holds a 3-9 career record in tour-level first-round matches.
- She has a 2-6 career record against top-50 players.
- Alexandrova reached the final on her only previous appearance in Ningbo in 2025.
- She is currently on a six-match winning streak against players ranked outside the top 50.
This will be their first meeting.
Guo Looks To Build On Breakthrough Wuhan Campaign
Hanyu Guo is coming off a successful week in Wuhan, where she entered as a wildcard and won two matches to reach the third round. Her run included a victory over Sorana Cirstea, marking the first top-20 win of her career. Before that campaign, she had never won multiple matches at a tour-level event.
The result provided a much-needed confidence boost after a difficult spell. Before Wuhan, Guo had failed to win a main-draw match in eight consecutive events dating back to May, highlighting her recent struggles.
She will now look to build on that momentum in Ningbo, where she made her debut last year but lost to Liudmila Samsonova. This time, she will aim to produce another encouraging run.

Alexandrova Seeks A Response After Wuhan Setback
Ekaterina Alexandrova began her Asian swing with a quarterfinal appearance in Beijing but failed to maintain that momentum in Wuhan, where she lost her opening-round match to Leylah Fernandez in three sets.
The Russian struggled significantly during the first half of the season, winning only six matches by mid-June. However, she has gradually found her rhythm in recent months, reaching the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg, Toronto and Beijing, as well as the third round at the US Open, Wimbledon and Cincinnati.
Despite those improvements, her results have not been enough to keep her inside the top 30. Alexandrova is now returning to Ningbo for the second time after reaching the final on her debut last year, and she will be looking to make another deep run.
