Luca Van Assche already holds a win over Lorenzo Musetti, and the circumstances this time look even more promising for him. The Italian is a long way from his best right now, with his form and fitness both under a cloud and his confidence visibly dented.
Van Assche, by contrast, is playing the best tennis of his career after a superb few months. With that history and momentum on his side, the Frenchman has every reason to believe he can repeat the trick against Musetti.

Van Assche Stages Comeback To Reach Lyon Quarterfinal
Luca Van Assche reached the quarterfinals in Lyon after defeating Valentin Vacherot from a set down, winning 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. After losing the opening set, the Frenchman raised his level and took control over the next two sets to complete the comeback.
The victory marks an encouraging turnaround for the 22-year-old, who had won only one main-draw match across his previous six tour-level events. He will now aim to reach the second tour-level semifinal of his career.
Van Assche recently won his maiden tour-level title in Estoril, surviving four three-set matches, including a victory over Andrey Rublev. That run helped him break into the top 50 in the rankings.
Although he has struggled to maintain consistency, his four Challenger titles, Estoril championship and quarterfinal appearance in Marrakech have helped him remain comfortably inside the top 50.

Lorenzo Musetti Advances To Second Lyon Quarterfinal
Lorenzo Musetti reached the quarterfinals in Lyon after defeating Moise Kouame in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. He initially trailed 1-3 but raised his level as the match progressed to secure the win.
This is Musetti's second quarterfinal appearance in Lyon. During his debut in 2021, which remains his only previous appearance at the tournament, he reached the semifinals. He will now look to match that result this week.
The Italian made a strong start to the season and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 5 in January, but an injury at the Australian Open disrupted his progress. He subsequently missed several major events and dealt with further physical problems, most recently a finger injury in Tokyo a few weeks ago.
Despite those setbacks, Musetti has reached five quarterfinals on tour this year. Apart from his run to the final in Hong Kong, he has lost his last four matches at this stage, with his most recent quarterfinal defeat coming in Cincinnati.

Verdict
At such tempting odds, Van Assche is well worth a punt to pull off the upset. For a safer angle, Van Assche to win a set and to win over 10.5 games in the match both carry plenty of value.
